| boden11's Full Review: Got2b Glued Spiking Gel |
Ever since I can remember I've had...difficult hair. If I grow it out at all it's virtually impossible to manage, and since I work with the public I need a hair care product that can keep my do glued! This wasn't the first hair gel I tried, as my wild hair stamped many other brands unacceptable (even expensive 'extra strength' imported bottles), but so far it seems to be the last.
I first was introduced to this product in many of their interesting magazine ads. You know the ones, a giant mohawk of 2 foot spikes...he's glued! After trying unsuccessfully with so many other brands I had to give this one a whirl. At almost $7/bottle for 6 ounces, it isn't the cheapest hair care product, but is it worth it?
The Ultimate Spiker!
While I can't agree with the first line (my hair doesn't do spiking) the rest of the description on the bottle is 100% truth.
"It's for hair that ain't goin' nowhere. Push through hair to put it in place...Delivers hold so strong--(it's wind-tunnel tested) your style will last until your next shampoo. And of course, (we wouldn't forget this part) it's water-resistant."
As far as hold is concerned, this is the strongest hair gel I have found, and it also LASTS! I can put some on at 7 in the morning, work until 5, go out on the town until midnight and my hair is still going strong. It also is easy to dispense and apply. Just squeeze a small portion out onto your palm, rub your palms together and then apply to WET hair. Unlike some gels, this product doesn't work on dry hair. In my case I have to literally jump out of the shower and then apply this product or else suffer the wrath of wild hair.
I have found it easier to comb my wet hair the why I'd like it to be after gluing it, and then applying the glue. Then I spread it all around and then re-comb to spread it evenly. Excess product sticks to my comb and can easily be removed with hot water. Unlike other hair products this one doesn't leave a visible residue if you applied it overzealously. It also will stick to your hands more than normal hair gels, but isn't too difficult to remove.
As for removing from your hair, got2b recommends purchasing their 'Squeaky Clean Daily Cleanse Shampoo'....bah! A simple shower (using any decent shampoo) will remove the hair gel without much effort...which is pretty much the only way to get the glue out as it has a lasting power like nobody's business.
Minor Gripes
While this product does give power back to those with crazy hair, I still do have a couple of small complaints. For one, after your hair is done, you can't touch it...at all. If you do you risk completely ruining your hair (cannot easily reapply into dry hair) and it leaves a sticky residue on your hands. Just taking off a shirt can poof out the sides of my hair so bad that a shower and more gel is the only way to fix it. While this product does work well in the rain, it is susceptible to wind. If I have my driver's window down and drive at highway speeds (on the highway of course!!) it can blow my hair completely out of place rendering it back to it's original afro state. Wind and rain at the same time? Hope you're packing, because unless you have a very good umbrella your hair is GONE!
Also any dried hair gel on the dispensing part (it's like a giant tube of toothpase with a flip-top) will make it very hard to open. The stuff literally is glue...and if your hair is like mine...it's got2b glued!
