I love the Harley Davidson brand and own several pairs of Harley boots and shoes and love them. Harley Davidson Sophia Shoes for Women are edgy and unique and can be quite inexpensive. I love them but have to warn you that they are heavy. The entire bottom of the shoe is solid rubber and that makes them weighty. Still, they're comfy and versatile.

About the Shoe

The Harley Davidson Sophia is an opened toed wedge sandal with a criss cross strap across the foot and an ankle strap. The shoes are made from genuine leather and rubber with metal mesh detailing. The heel is about 3.75" and the platform is about 1". That brings these heels up to a towering 4.75" in total but because they are wedges and platforms, they don't feel as high. The back of the shoe zips making them easy to put on and take off.

The straps are embellished with metal mesh criss crosses all over which look very cool. The ankle strap is not adjustable but, for me, is very roomy. The straps across the foot bed also are not adjustable and fit medium width feet well. The shoes have a soft leather sock foot bed and the soles are pebbled for great traction. The entire heel is rubber and, as I said, the shoes are heavy. The heaviness makes them feel sturdier to me though. It just takes a bit of getting used to when you first slip them on and start to walk in them.

My Experience

I bought my Harley Davidson Sophia Shoes  recently after swearing I wouldn't buy another pair of shoes ... ever! I have so many pairs of all varieties that I have yet to wear many of them. But these sandals are different from what I have and I love the Harley brand. I also thought the price was great for the quality. I didn't even realize that I was getting a great deal until after seeing them selling for double the price I paid online at other vendors' websites.

This shoe comes in whole and half sizes from 5-11. I find they run true to size. I bought a size 8 and they are perfect.

I liked the metallic criss cross detail and the ankle strap. I also liked that they have a zip back which is so easy to slip on and off. I was a bit leery of the height but, from experience, I know that wedges with a platform don't make me teeter like stilettos or even non platformed wedges. I took a chance and hoped they would be comfortable and they are.

There are a few things about the shoe that may make them an imperfect choice for some. The straps are not adjustable which could be an issue. The ankle strap is wide for my skinny ankles but, for those with thicker ankles, the strap may feel restrictive or tight. There is a bit of elastic in the strap which should help but it's not very stretchy.

The straps across the instep are also not adjustable but do have a small amount of elastic for a bit of stretch. Those with wide feet may find that these are too narrow though.

Other than those issues, these are traditional Harley quality. The thick rubber heels are solid and provide cushioning as I walk and the foot bed is slightly padded for comfort. The soles of these shoes have loads of tiny "nubs" which provide excellent traction. You will NOT slip or slide when wearing these sandals.

As far as comfort goes, the Sophias are high. If you aren't used to high wedges, you will need to break these in and get used to the slope of the heel. The thick platform does help so that your feet aren't on their tip toes and the slope is less steep.

When I got these sandals, I immediately tried them on and they felt great. I knew the ankle strap would be roomy because I have skinny ankles and very rarely find shoes with an ankle strap that fits snugly. And that's OK because I don't want anything too tight around my ankles anyway.

The straps across the instep are comfortable. They're soft on the underside and don't dig into my feet at all. I like that the shoes have shiny metal rivets but I am sort of surprised that the only mention of them being the Harley Davidson brand is on the zipper and on the foot bed. No Harley logo! All of my Harley Davidson shoes have the orange HD logo displayed somewhere on the shoe so I am a bit surprised that these don't. Of course, there isn't much space for a logo with these strappy sandals.

The cool factor is way up there. The metallic mesh stitching, the straps, and the high wedges make these sandals sexy and versatile. They look great with jeans and shorts but can easily work with a dress.

I have other pairs of Harley Davidson sandals so I was prepared for the Harley Davidson Sophia Shoes to be heavier than typical sandals and they sure are. They take a little getting used to but they feel so sturdy on my feet that I actually welcome the weight. I wouldn't want to walk long distances like at a fair or mall shopping with these on but I wouldn't wear this type of shoe in any weight for those activities. These are great for going out on the town or just jetting around town.

The straps will stretch a little bit and conform to your feet with wear but I don't believe they will stretch a lot so if the shoes are very restrictive, I wouldn't count on them stretching enough to be comfortable. A friend tried these shoes on and couldn't wear them because her ankles are much thicker than mine and the straps were too tight so that is something to think about when considering buying these shoes. You may want to try to find them in a store and try them on instead of buying online if your ankles are larger or you have wide feet.

The Bottom Line

I really like my Harley Davidson Sophia Sandals and feel they look great with almost any outfit. They are high but still comfortable and they definitely don't allow for any sliding or slipping even on just waxed floors. They are heavier than other sandals but not to the detriment of their comfort. These are super cool looking and have the edge I like in footwear. The quality is high and I believe these will last for years. 4 stars.
