Pros:Works well, cleans easily, inexpensive.
Cons:Well ...you do have to remember to use it.
The Bottom Line: In use for at least two months. No breaks in screen of the trap, cleans easily after each use, has never 'clogged up' while in use. Recommended.

Hair. It is one of life's small nuisances. From head to toe we obsess about it. Coloring it, combing it, brushing it, washing it, plucking it, shaving it, waxing it . . .as hirsute primates we are forced to care for, and about, our hair.
As modern man moved into houses and developed indoor plumbing ...hair became an even bigger nuisance. We now need to keep loose hair out of indoor plumbing systems. Many/most homeowners are familiar with hair strands conspiring to form disgusting clogs in a home's drainpipes.
There are numerous products sold to remove clogs from waste water drainpipes. Rather than dealing with unexpected clogs ...and having to use plungers, 'snakes', harsh chemicals, and maybe even a plumber to clear them ...perhaps it is better to simply prevent them.
The Helping Hand Handy Trap is a simple plastic screen that fits over drain openings "on sinks, tubs, [and] shower stalls." Rather than leaving the drain open or sealing it with a plug ...the Handy Trap allows the water to flow to waste while retaining loose hairs on the trap itself.
Almost five inches across, this trap fits over and 'seals' standard drain openings. A raised central 'cone' allows it to fit over "most pop-up stoppers" as well. It will work in most tubs, shower stalls, and kitchen and bathroom sinks.
We have found it works well in our house. We use it only in our bathtub/shower. The main chore in using it is to remember to clean it after each use. We all do a good *cough* job of making sure it is ready for its next use.
One of our cats likes to lie in our bathtub. I suppose he finds the 'privacy' and cool porcelain agreeable. Of course he leaves some amount of his hair behind ...but even his finer cat hair is strained efficiently and does not hinder flow of water through the trap. Although to this point he refuses to clean up after himself.
This Handy Trap strainer is much better than a regular tub stopper in helping to prevent hair clogs. A stopper simply allows loose hair to mix in the water and eventually the loose hair is drained with the waste water. Use of this strainer over a pop up stopper allows water to be held when needed and hair to be strained from it when the tub/sink is drained.
The Bottom Line
We have been using our Helping Hand Handy Trap for at least two months. We have not had any breaks in the screen area of the trap, it cleans easily with bathroom tissue after each use, and has never 'clogged up' while in use; the water always drains efficiently.
We are quite happy with this product, its durability, and its performance.

I also should point out this review is an entry to the T.R.I.V.I.A.L. write-off sponsored by user/friend mmcphee.
She has challenged users to write a review, or multiple reviews, of products one might consider to be of trivial value or importance ...my words, not the write-off sponsor.
Seriously . . .is there anything more trivial than a bathtub strainer..?? Does anyone lie awake at night worrying they bought the *wrong* strainer..?!? I rest my case.
So check out the write-off and enjoy reading other reviews of trivial products and consider adding your own review(s).
