johnr55's Full Review: KitchenAid KSB3 Classic 3-Speed Blender
I purchased one of these blenders also when it was relatively new, seduced by its appearance compared to my Waring and Oster commercial models. Initially, I enjoyed the wide base assembly as it was easy to work with. I also enjoyed the pushbuttons, which have since become much more common.
However, I use a blender for soups and gravies as well as mixing drinks. This was where the glaring weakness of this blender revealed itself: it didn't blend well! For instance, taking tomatoes to make a sauce, I could blend for 5 minutes and would still have chunks of tomato. When I would try to crush ice for drinks, pebbles of ice would be left no matter how long I would blend. For a smooth soup, lumps would be left in the mixture.
Now, perhaps that would be considered excessively demanding, but I don't think so. I have, and have had, many superb blenders--though in my mind, the Bosch Universal blender does the best.
I ended up giving this blender to one of my employees, who still has it and enjoys it a few years later. She simply doesn't demand or expect what I do in a blender.
