| JFTaylor's Full Review: Starbucks Barista Burr Grinder |
There is nothing else you can purchase to make a dramatic difference in the way coffee tastes, it's aroma or the overall enjoyment of your coffee than a burr grinder. Not only does it serve a functional use to grind your beans to the desired consistency, but it also looks quite stylish sitting on your counter (next to an espresso machine of course).
This grinder uses a set (2) of conical stainless steel burrs to precisely grind your beans to the coarseness you set on a dial on the rim of the grinder. This will move the burrs closer or farther apart, depending on the grind. The settings range from espresso (very fine) to french press (coarse). No blade grinder that I've seen can grind coffee for a french press.
A timer is used to activate the grinder and can be shut off manually once the grinding is done. The hopper is larger enough a airtight enough to allow you to keep a couple of days worth of coffee in it, and set the timer to only grind what you need for your morning pot.
The burrs are removable for easy cleaning if you were to grind decaf and regular, otherwise they stay very clean. The only negative is the 'blowup' of grounds you get when you remove the hopper due to static electricity. This only happens when the air is very dry.
If you want to raise your coffee enjoyment to the next level, or give your favorite coffee fanatic a great gift, a Starbucks Burr Grinder is the way to go.
