Good for you for taking the green view. Hopefully, you'll have your house long enough to reap the benefits of your investment

In the meantime, you've been considerate of the planet. On behalf of all of us earth-dwellers, I thank you.

of this brand. Sounds great. Yes, as the previous comment stated, you would need to keep your house a while to reap the cost benefit.

Thanks for sharing...I'll keep this in mind for when I'm in the market for a dishwasher.

Great Review! (Reply to this comment)

My son and his wife have one of these. My daughter-in-law says that the good parts she likes is that it's "noiseless" and she can put large dishes on top as well as the bottom rack.

Also perhaps you paid a lot for installation because the dimensions from your other dishwasher were smaller and the plumber had to cut part of your countertop and perhaps the sides of the cabinets also. Also there are more parts to hook up than a regular dishwasher.

Good luck with your new Bosch! Thanks for sharing this.

no, the counter(top) did fit perfect. But you are right, the guy said that there was something extra that had to be hooked up.
The pipe had to be completely replaced because the old one was not long enough.

Savings / pay-off (Reply to this comment)
by ptiemann
Well, it actually starts to pay off in a different way.

My kitchen is finally clean enough that I can have food in there and I don't have to eat out every day. Eating out was expensive!

Great review. I had never really thought about the water issue before you brought up. I should have since I have to pay a water bill. Not a very smart consumer am I?

I didn't even know Bosch made diswashers! I knew about the table saws, and power tools, but...dishwashers??? Who would have thunk it??? Sounds like, if I ever need a new dishwasher, I'll check out the Bosch selection!

but, at the risk of earning the enmity of your many admirers (and perhaps you), may i make a very small style critique? i would suggest that you watch the use of the semi-colon, which you tend use where a comma should be used. i know this is nit-picky in the extreme, but i hate to see an otherwise literate person make the same punctuation error over and over.

otherwise, your review did what it was supposed to do: i want to buy this dishwasher. can you forgive my need to correct your punctuation??

While you were busy shopping for a dishwasher for your own personal use, I was out purchasing one for a house I own. One that I will pry never see again, thnx to the military : )

Now that you have this to cool dishwasher, can I send my never ending supply of dirty dishes over?

Great job,
Gypsy

Now I just need to save the money LOL. I'm tired of handwashing all these dishes!! The price I had to pay when we bought this house (dishwasherless). :ugh:

You brought up some great points I'll have to keep in mind when I do purchase a dishwasher - such as water consumption.

Great job as always

I ordered one for my new home on Lake Conroe, partly because of what I read on this site before. I splurged and got the ridiculously expensive one that you can't see(the panels make it look like a cabinet, and the controls are hidden). It cost around $1100 or $1200. I liked the water and energy consevation features. This model has removable racks as well. I hope I'll like it as well as you do. (And I think it's Sweedish, not German as someone indicated in their comment)

This sounds like a great dishwasher. I'll have to keep it in mind am I ever in need of a new one. My only concern would be that some of the things I wash might not be dishwasher safe at the higher operating temperature of this unit.

I don't know (Reply to this comment)

how well you know the Bosch name, but what with the reliability of their heat guns to their engine management systems to their scissors or even power tools, all I have to do is hear the name and I will want to know more, does the name "Motronic" ring a bell? Excellent review, i especially liked the comment on the Cuban washer, do you mean the ones that are actually made in Yugoslavia of Ethiopian parts. . .

My new SHU 5300!! (Reply to this comment)
by chriscurtis
Well my old GE dishwasher finally died a few weeks ago and so my husband and I took a friend's advice and purchased a Bosch.

The unit did not come cheap at $885.00 Canadian on sale, however, it was worth every penny! Even on the delicate/econo cycle, the dishes, glasses, and cutlery came out sparkling clean. In fact our regular glasses came out looking like fine crystal!

I highly recommend the Bosch to anyone in the market for a new dishwasher. The construction is second to none, the water consumption is low and it is EXTREMELY quiet, so buy it!!

Bosch SHU5302 Repair Prone (Reply to this comment)
by mwolt
It is quite but prone to mechanical and electrical breakdowns. In the first year the pump motor went out and it too over a month for the service agent to get the part. In year two the electronic solid state controller failed, flooded the kitchen and cost $160 to repair and Bosch's response was it had a 5 year electrical warranty but did not cover labor. Just sighted the warranty. Further research on internet revealed the electronic controller only lasts 2 to 3 years and is common problem. Better by an extended warranty on the $800 consumer price so it is well over a $1,000 expense. Our 7 year old Kithcen aid was just as quite and never broke down, we still use it at our vacation home.

I agree with you that bosch makes the best dishwasher. (I do the major appliances at sears so i'm very familiar with them) the 579$ bosch is actually 55 db. The model up that is now the number one rated by the consumer magazine is 50. I just don't think you should talk so down to kenmore, because you do know kenmore doesn't BUILD the appliances. Actually bosch makes one for us it is 799$. It is 50 sound db and you can really tell the difference from the one you got to it. It also has more adjustable racks and what not. I'm not bashing your review I am glad you bought the bosch because I like to push bosch sales too since they really are truly the best. I sell the one you buy quite often, some people don't like the fact it doesn't have a food grinder, but since the temp gets over 161 since bosch has the built in heater anything water soluable will be torched. When I am in the market for a dishwasher I am eithe rgoing with the bosch that you just bought, or I will be going for the kenmore with the turbozone/stainless interior (made by kitchenaid/whirlpool). The turbozone is a neat idea for messy lasagna dishes or anything with cake batter etc. I agree with your opinion.
