Pros: soft, gets dishes clean
Cons: lack of durability, long cycles=wasting water?
The Bottom Line: I give it an average because it did a great job before flooding our house. Maybe we got the unlucky one?

Prelude
My mom purchased a new dishwasher about 3 years ago to this day. I was very excited about this purchase. I am a teenage male but this new addition to our family hopefully would make my chores easier and the TV more audible. You see, our old washer was loud, average in cleaning, and stunk up the house with a smell of dish soap so potent that my eyes watered.
This new machine was supposed to be the "it" thing. Quieter, better cleaning, and high durability was what was advertised. Initially the machine was superb. I could watch TV without turning up the volume and found that I didn't have to scrub the dishes again after they were washed. The machine was fine for these 3 years until the past 6 months. It kind of hit a wall i guess. First the light on the door that showed how much time remained on the cycle, burned out. That costs a few pennies. Next though was a big thing. The machine began fine but would then add time to the cycle and stay on a time. For example, a full load would take 99 minutes usually. With this new problem the countdown would go to say 70 then stay on 70 minutes for awhile and go up to 80. The single load would end up taking a 4 hours. This was ruining our families water bill and just wasn't too eco-friendly at all. Plus the quality of the washing decreased.
We had always taken care of the machine. It still looked brand new. So my mom said that if the machine did the funny countdown thing again she would call the serviceman up. Unfortunately the machine didn't last another load. After coming back home from a family trip to the dentist we found it flooding the entire kitchen and it leaking into the finished basement. We cleaned up quickly and called the repairman, Bosch service line and anybody who could help. Upon later inspection it was found that the machine had some faulty wiring as well as a broken washer in it. So we again look for a new machine. With me off to college it doesn't concern me as much but for my younger brothers the chore of putting away the dishes and putting them into the machine is passed down to them.
Actual Machine
The machine has a sleek front to it with an easy set of buttons to choose what wash you want. The inside has lots of room with a expandable feature thing on the top rack to add more small glasses. The silverware container is in the form of a cool basket and the stainless steel inside has kept a nice shine to it. The Jet-Dry and soap dispensers are manageable and the door handle to open it is an easy click handle. The bottom rack is a little smaller than other machines because of the silverware basket that is parked in the middle of the lower rack. It can hold about 8-10 large dishes. For a family of 5, this is not a lot of room.
The silverware basket is quite large though since it does take up a majority of the lower rack. The amount of utensils you can fit in the basket does not match up to the amount of dishes at all. The top rack can fit much more. My family can easily fit 15 cups and glasses and multiple small dishes and saucers. A typical load on the highest wash level will take 99 minutes. A regular one can be done for about 20 minutes less and there is a top rack only option.
Overall, regardless of the few incidents we've had, the Bosch is stellar in terms of looks and effectiveness.
