Pros: Quiet, cleans well, uses less water
Cons: Expensive repairs, Warranty very limited, short life span
The Bottom Line: The Bosch is extremely overpriced and not durable. The warranty is too limited and the cost of repairs is outrageous. I would never buy another one nor recommend it.

| jksilver's Full Review: Bosch SHU53 24 in. Built-in Dishwasher |
In 1998 our 10 year old inexpensive Frigidaire dishwasher was leaking. We bought a Bosch 5300 series on the recommendation of friends who also owned one and were happy with theirs. For 3 years, I was very pleased with the quietness and cleaning performance of the Bosch. On Thanksgiving day, 2001, it broke. The Sears repairman came out a week later and determined the heating element needed to be replaced. The cost was $80 for the part, $55 for the service call and $167 for the labor. Since the element is located in the bottom of the unit, 2 men have to lift the unit out of the cabinet to install the new one. The very limited warranty does not cover any of the cost. After the first year, the 5 years that is so publicized only covers the microprocessor and lower dish rack, labor excluded. I am outraged that an $800 dishwasher only lasted 3 years!!! We never had to replace the heating element in the cheap old Frigidaire.
After checking with our friends, they also had to replace the heating element after 2 years. The repairman said he personally has replaced others as well. Obviously, Bosch has a problem with the heating element and has not recalled or corrected it.
I called Bosch and after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, they denied a faulty part. Their explanation for both machines was "normal wear and tear". I don't believe it. Both of us have no children at home and don't even use the dishwasher every day. After considerable arguing with the supervisor, he offered to pay for the part, but not the labor. According to him, Bosch was doing me a favor because the warranty had expired and they really didn't have to do anything. Now I will have spent $1000 on one broken down dishwasher. With that much money, I would have been better off buying a new less expensive brand each year for 3 years. All 3 dishwashers would have the benefit of a full 1 year warranty.
I will never recommend the Bosch dishwasher to anyone nor buy another one and neither will our friends. It is definitely not worth the very expensive price tag!!!
