| Magick1's Full Review: Bosch SHU53 24 in. Built-in Dishwasher |
After purchasing our home earlier this year, we knew we would have to make some purchases. (We've definitely supported the economy this year!) Whew!
Bosch has been tops in our book for economic value and features. We have reviewed a lot of manufacturers for warranty, style, economy, and price, and found Bosch to be top of the line, but at a top of the line price.
They offer quite a bit for the money though, especially when compared with the warranties for a lot of other manufacturers out there.
Main Features
Basic Information
Let me start by saying the dishwasher uses 7 gallons per load, on average. It will adjust water usage based upon the level of dirty dishes and how easily they clean. If it is a slightly dirty load, the water level will be decreased, if it is extremely dirty, it will go until the dishes are clean.
It uses a sensor (Sensotronic tm) to test your water when you use it. Therefore, if you have hard water, which could be misconstrued as dirty water, the machine makes adjustments for that purpose, so that it will not over wash your dish loads.
Upper and lower Spray Arm (four different spraying levels total)
Upper Adjustable Rack (on specific models)
Filters (triple filtration system)
Flow Through Heater (to “boost” the temperature of your water)
Warranty Information
All based upon the date of installation
1 Year Full Limited Warranty from normal use free repairs, excludes cosmetic items
2 Year Limited Warranty for any component or part the proves defective under normal use, owner will be charged for repairs
5 Year Limited Warranty on electronics, microprocessor or printed circuit boards if they prove defective under normal use
5 Year Limited Warranty for the upper and lower dish rack, excluding rack components, free of charge, through normal usage
Lifetime Limited Warranty against Stainless Steel Rust Through, they will replace your model with the same or BETTER if the inner lining should rust through under normal home usage, if it is rust through on the door, they will replace the door, labor costs will be include under this warranty, owner would not have to pay for it!
Wash Features
You have choices ranging from a non-delicate cycle, delicate cycle, mixed. You can choose for a Power Scrub Plus, for dirty pots and pans or really tough items, Scrub Wash, Regular Wash, Delicate/Econo, or a Rinse and Hold.
You can also start with a delayed “wash”. That way, if you have your breakfast dishes ready, but someone still has to take a shower, you can delay the wash to start up to 9 hours, and you can input them by hour increments! It’s a really handy feature!
You can choose to have the top rack at two different heights allowing a 14 inch or 12 inch clearance on the bottom level, but still giving you 10 inches or 8 inches for clearance on the top level! Or, if you completely remove the rack if you have really tall stock pots or items that are larger than normal with a 22 inch clearance. It’s a very handy feature!
The flow through heater mentioned above provides a wash at 161 degrees! You cannot beat that for cleaning power!
You have a detergent dispenser and rinse agent dispenser with a sensor light on the outside on your control panel that will advise you when it is low! (Most dishwashers have these features, but I wanted to mention it.)
Filters
As mentioned earlier, there is a triple filter feature present on these dishwashers. There is a micro-filter, which is self-cleaning, a course filter, which you will have to clean occasionally. The fine filter rarely needs a cleaning, but you do want to check on it a few times. It’s very easy to check the filters, as they are placed in the bottom of the dishwasher, and you give them a small twist and pull them out! Very simple and easy to remove and replace.
Final Thoughts
National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA) dictates minimum standards for appliances, and rates the models according to how well they “beat” the average by more than 25% to become and “EnergyStar” appliance. Bosch products generally beat this rating by achieving 30 % or greater. This particular model has a rating that is 31%.
Therefore, it is “EnergyStar” compliant, providing you a wonderful alternative, if you are in the market checking out dishwashers! There are other washers that beat the Bosch in this category, and there are a lot more that come in well below Bosch.
Bosch provides one of the quietest washes that I have ever heard. The decibel level that this dishwasher gives off is 49. Bosch uses something they refer to as the AS II™ (Anti-Vibration System). It apparently has three layers that dampens the sound (insulation), and the system that they dishwasher uses has a very quiet two-pump system that has rubber-buffers to eliminate noisy vibrations.

You cannot beat the product, the warranty, the wash, or the extreme QUIET!
