| catharr's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel DD-602 24 in. Built-in Dishwashe... |
I have experience with both the previous model DD602I and the newer DD603I. Fisher & Paykel have done an excellent job with the new model DD603. When I purchased the first model DD602I dishdrawers my house was under construction. I used them for a short time before the new DD603I was released. The problems with the old model had apparently been addressed and improved with the new ones. I arranged to exchange mine for the new ones. I loved the old ones and was really not that unhappy with them. The new set has turned out to be almost ideal. My dishes are sparkling and are completely dry every time. The fact that it uses a food filter instead of a food grinder is an advantage in my opinion. It is extremely easy to do. You lift open the trap door on the tub basket and lift out the filter and rinse it in the sink. This is only required maybe once a week. It depends on what kind of dishpowder you use. The tub racks are very well designed. The racks lift easily to make the best arrangement for your particular load. The dd603I is the integrated panel model. There have been some concerns about steam and the integrated panels. These new units do NOT produce steam in or around the panels. My panels are unchanged from the day they were installed. The drawers are a fantastic invention. Once you try them you will be hooked. My glass cupboard is directly above the dishdrawers. Because you can pull the drawer out at a half way position, I can easily stand in front to reach the cupboard. The fact that there are two drawers is also a fantastic invention. You are allowed to wash two different types of dishes at the same time. For instance if you are entertaining guests you will have a fine china load for the delicate cycle, and a heavy cycle for scrubbing greasy pots. Another use for 2 drawers is for a smaller household. One day my household will shrink to only the two of us. At that time having the smaller drawers will allow me to run smaller loads of dishes frequently. So these drawers will provide a lasting and ever changing purpose. These drawers are also designed to heat water up to 160 degrees. This can insure that the dishes are completely sanitized. Not only do they save water they also save energy. With each type of cycle you have the choice of using the eco. cycle. The rinse aid system does such a great job that you can use the eco cycle and still have dry spot free dishes. Of all my new appliances the F&P dishdrawers are the most user friendly.
