Last year we completely remodeled our kitchen and replaced all of the appliances. Our prior appliances were top of the line: Maytag, Sub-Zero, etc., in keeping with our high standards and expectations. We liked the F&P's looks and were intrigued by its need for less water and smaller load capacity. We live alone with no children and frequently don't have a full load of dishes to run at one time. We wanted a quiet machine as it is next to our dining area.
Our first problem was the incredibly difficult installation that took all day and made the installer furious. The product literature is absolutely correct that the installation really must be done by someone who knows this specific machine. I was also glad that I forced myself to be patient and watch the included video (an absolute must!). Though the video's quality is average, it offers important information as the use of this machine is not intuitive. For instance, a touchpad on the top of the inside of the drawer operates the dishdrawer. It has a row of 5 lights and two separate controls, one at each end. It is easy to inadvertantly touch this and then have to reset it.
When I ran my first load of dishes, I learned of its
shortcomings:
1. It only washes dishes that have practically been washed first;
2. It doesn't remove grease (like from potato chips placed in a bowl), nor does it have a built in disposal mechanism.
3. The worst thing to me is it does not "dry" plastic dishes at all.
In the first week, I called F&P and they sent repair people to our house three separate times before they admitted that the machine does not DRY any form of plastic. It's "drawer" design is innovative, but in actual use, it is less efficient than the standard sized machine. I just don't seem to be able to fit as many items in as I used to.
