I bought my Bosch Condensation dryer in early 2000 to go with my Bosch front-loading washing machine.
Making the Decision:
I knew I wanted a front-loading washer and a dryer which I could stack on top of the washer to fit in a closet space in my apartment. Not only is my washing area quite small, but it also has no vent to the outside world. The old dryer had its tube connected to a tub of water on the floor for condensation, which required regular emptying and cleaning. It sometimes resulted in large amounts of lint flying around, as well as billowing amounts of humidity and heat in the air during a drying cycle.
Thank God for the Condensation Dryer! Instead of an outside vent for the moisture coming off of the clothes like a traditional machine, the dryer condenses the excess moisture inside the machine and drains it away. When I found this dryer, it made up my mind that Bosch was the way to go. American companies do not offer condensation dryers; it seems to be primarily a European offering because Europeans are more cramped for space than Americans. I considered other brands, such as ASKO and Miele, but settled on Bosch because local dealers told me the Bosch support and repair people were the most reliable.
Usage:
Clothes come out of the Bosch washer's spin cycle with a lot of the water squeezed out. Then I just pop them into the dryer on top of the washer, choose my dryness level, shut the door and press Start. It does get a little warm in the room with the dryer during a cycle, but it's not a big deal, and it's definitely more efficient than my previous system. The link catcher is in the door, which makes it easily accessible.
Functionality:
The Bosch dryer offers a number of different drying settings: Timed Air Fluff, Timed Heated Dry, Permanent Press and Regular. The Permanent Press and Regular settings allow you to choose a level of dryness from Damp Dry through Extra Dry, which the machine determines with a device that measures the humidity inside. It's intended to allow you to remove clothes slightly damp for ironing, or get them really dry. In addition, it has an anti-crease cycle after the end of the drying cycle in case you can't remove your clothes right away.
All in all, I'm very pleased with my decision... it's a great dryer, and it works well in tandem with the washer. It's firmly planted on top the washer and has never been dislodged, even when the washer's on its 1200 rpm spin cycle. Gets the job done, and well.
UPDATE FEB 2002:
I've had the dryer for about 2 years and had absolutely no problems. The anti-wrinkle cycle is a lifesaver for me, and I like the moisture sensor which stops the dryer before the clothes get too hot. But all in all, I'm still extremely happy with the dryer and would definitely buy it again.
