In January my husband and I went looking for a washer/dryer for our new home. We had limited cash to spend since we were already tapped out from the move. So we paid for Whirlpool's generic products, an Estate washer and dryer. For the money spent we felt we had picked up a washer and dryer that would serve our needs until we were in a position to purchase something better. When the delivery was made to our house, a Whirlpool Extra-large Capacity was unloaded into my laundry room. The delivery man explained that no Estate dryer was available so I automatically received the next model up at no extra cost to me. I had fully paid in advance, and it was not my fault. This was company policy.
I have been thrilled with my Whirlpool dryer. It is very easy to use and clean the lint trap (which is also extra-large). There are settings for regular(sturdy)clothes, permanent press clothes, and delicate clothing. There is also a "finish guard" setting that can be engaged at will that has successfully prevented my clothes from overheating. I can happily say that we have not had any shrunken clothes since we got our Whirlpool.
The drum is quite large, and the light inside makes it so easy to find articles immediately. It's enough to make you wonder why someone didn't put a light inside a dryer sooner.
I also use the alarm feature almost constantly. When the dryer has finished its cycle a buzzer goes off to let you know. If you can not immediately empty the dryer, it automatically tumbles the clothes every few minutes to prevent wrinkles and the buzzer re-sounds. Even my 11 year old daughter loves to use the Whirlpool.
One day I missed a pen in my husband's pocket and it ran through the washer and dryer. It exploded in the Whirlpool. When I open the dryer to find dry ink smeared all over the drum I wanted to cry. I thought it would cost a small fortune to get it cleaned out. Before calling the service man I tried Goo Gone on the ink spots and they came right out. There are a couple of grey lines remaining but you have look really close to see them and no mechanical damage was done. Also, only a couple of small ink marks found there way onto clothes. An old tee-shirt and a sweat shirt. Most of the clothes in the load were unaffected by the mishap.
A down side is the amount of heat generated by the dryer. My husband thinks the venting system in our laundry room might be to blame and not the Whirlpool. If I do not open the window in the laundry room when the Whirlpool is running it gets like a steamroom in the back end of our house. All the windows fog up. While it keeps the house moist in the winter months, it sometimes get a bit confusing to feel intense heat and cold air coming from the same room. This is my only complaint about the Whirlpool.
I highly recommend the Whirlpool Extra-large Capacity dryer to everyone. It is easy on the pocketbook, easy to use and can dry large loads in a reasonable period of time.
