| artinvent's Full Review: DeLonghi BAR 14 Espresso Machine |
I bought this machine on sale from a local bagel cafe where it sat for quite a while. They used to call it the Caffe Treviso. I finally got it for about $35. It has a pump which was a step up for me from a pressure driven cheaper model. I also used an expensive Gaggia machine for a while - it was actually starting to rust out, the pump had a tendency to get stopped up with mineral deposits and needed frequent messy cleanouts. The DeLonghi, on the other hand, went about 8 years without ever needing a cleanout, which I find pretty amazing. I use it every day. At this point performance has faltered a bit, I am not sure, maybe it finally has gotten gunked up inside - I have very hard water. It still works though the pump pressure seem low and will not put out a full 'shot' before the ready light goes out. At any rate, I am looking for another and would not hesitate to spend the full $100 or so I see them for now - thank heavens they still make them. I laugh when I see $300 or $1200 espresso machines when this one is so good for a reasonable price. Why pay that much for a machine when it is likely to need replacing after a couple of years. In short - fantastic.
