Pros: Flawless operation, great drinks, great customer support, and simple to use.
Cons: Irregular pump sound (made learning a bit hard), and no auto-off (no apparent damage).
The Bottom Line: Shop all you want -- but you can see from what I and others say: this one is great.

First machine for me -- didn't know what to expect and thought my payback would have to be 1-2 years...which is not a problem at Starbuck's pricing. I moved to the mountains in LA four years ago, where the local coffee shop reuses its grounds (I know no other explanation for their flavor -- my wife's Folger's Instant is better as espresso), and just hoped that I could get "that taste". The first morning I tried it, I nearly cried (I had been espresso-less for a couple of months), and I still get the same (positive) reaction 4 years later.
The machine was expensive at the time, but the service at the Starbuck's shop and through customer support was flawless. At the shop, while buying my machine, I had the manager and two people helping me. At one point, my sunglasses fell off my head because the hinge screw had come out. One of the staff was down on the floor searching for the screw, and then fixed my sunglasses after locating it. When the manager heard that it was my first maching, she threw in a bunch of goodies, glasses, scoop, etc. I think that the only thing I had to buy extra was the little milk-steamer pot.
When my cleaning gal put the plastic drip-tray in the dishwasher (an apparent no-no, resulting in some modern art) I called to buy a replacement and they sent one for free because I was still in the one-year (?) warranty period.
