First of all, I love Starbucks coffee. Second, they have some of the most exceptional customer service I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, I seem to have been a victim of quality control issues with the Barista.
I've been drooling over the Candy Apple red machine for months, and finally bought one last week. When I opened the box, anywhere that the styrofoam had been touching the paint, the finish was marred. So I exchanged it. The second one had the same problem, and some of the finish actually came off on a wet paper towel when I tried to wipe it down! They both also had a very strong "wet paint" odor, as if the paint or coating hadn't dried properly. Again, I exchanged.
Machine number three. Something was wrong with the portafilter attachment, and the "shower" head seemed to be attached improperly. When I went to put the portafilter on, the handle snapped off. They told me that part is backordered until September (it's June), so it would be better to exchange it. At this point, I was thinking I didn't want to go through any more of this for a $400 machine, but I tried again. Machine number four. The water reservoir lid kept getting stuck closed, and the machine was making a horrible rattling noise.
Not only that, but I have to agree with another reviewer who said that they require so much priming and prepping so as to not void the warranty that I wouldn't have the time or energy to do that every day.
Sorry Starbucks, but I'm done.
