The Bottom Line: Great hand mixer with KitchenAid reliability; spend the extra -- I believe you'll save in the long run. And it's pretty!

This is a great hand mixer. KitchenAid is getting very high marks in my book these days. I don't know what number hand mixer this makes in the nearly 20 years I've been cooking on my own, but I'm pretty sure it will last for MANY years. I have had mixers just die, and I've burned up motors in the middle of mixing my Grandma's famous apple cake. Very irritating! I have not made apple cake with this one yet, but it's awesome for mashed potatoes! The digital display is very nice, as this makes a smooth top/handle -- therefore, no cracks or buttons for cookie dough to get stuck in. The clean-up is very easy on this mixer. It has an attached cord. The beaters are different than the "old" standard ones -- there is no middle post. I have found this to be much better -- half of your batter is not stuck in the beater when you're done mixing. The tops of the beaters are also slightly different, so they will only go into the proper holes. The eject button works fine, but is not so easy so that you accidentally push it while mixing. This mixer comes in all of the KitchenAid colors, so everything can match (mine is cobalt). It does not come with any other beaters, other than the standard 2. But the attachments that came with my old hand mixers are still brand new -- I never used them.
