ampmom's Full Review: KitchenAid KHM7T Ultra Power Plus Hand Mixer
In my 16 adult years, I have owned 2 other hand mixers and this one. The others had a short life, 3 settings, and beaters with grooves in them so that the food would get "stuck" and be hard to clean.
I bought the KitchenAid because of the reputation that company has, and because it had 7 speeds. It also came with a freebie whisk thing, and I tend to go for the things that are "thrown in." It has already outlived the two previous ones I owned!
The variable speeds are important because the whipping in of air for some recipes is not a good thing. The low speeds help avoid this. On the other hand, some ingredients really need whipped into shape and that is where 5, 6 and 7 come in handy!
The motor is powerful enough to mix whatever I've put to the test, even dough. The blades are thin and round, and I have no trouble when it's time to clean them. I stick them in the dishwasher and they come out clean every time.
Although I have a stand mixer which I use often, this one comes in handy for small jobs, quick mixes, and things like mashed potatoes. I like to buy quality in the cases where it will make a difference and be better in the long run. This is one of those instances.
