My husband asked for this specific hand mixer (had to be the 9 speed!) for Christmas the year that I was pregnant. I had to walk long and far to find the thing, nauseous all the while, but now I have to admit that it was worth the purchase price - and maybe even the nauseating walk through two different malls!

I am not a great cook, but I do enjoy baking, and usually I try to bake something on Sunday or Monday afternoons. Week after week, I find myself taking this hand mixer out, neglecting our KitchenAid stand mixer, which by contrast seems too heavy-duty for everything but angel food cakes, pound cakes, and really huge batches of cookies.
The 9 speed hand mixer is easy to use. The beaters are are easy to attach, and it is simple to plug it in and turn it on. It does have an on/off switch so that, as long as you make sure it is in the "off" position, the mixer will not surprise you by taking off on its own. Nine speeds may seem like a lot - and owning the stand mixer, we probably could have gotten away with the seven or even the five speed models. But the nine speeds are really helpful to have when whipping cream or egg whites, and I do use all nine speeds.
It is also very simple to clean this mixer. Remove the beaters (easily done with the touch of a button), unplug, and wipe clean. After two years, it still looks brand new, and still works perfectly.
The only cons I can see with this product are that it only comes in white, unlike the stand mixers (which seem to come in a huge range of colors), and that not every story carries this model. I actually couldn't find it at the Mall of America anchor stores! I finally located it at a smaller mall, at a Dayton's store.
This is a great mixer for people who want a convenient mixer that works well, can do a large variety of jobs, and that is fairly light and - yes - even portable. It is not our choice for the larger projects, as I mentioned, but that is mostly because the stand mixer has such a large bowl - the hand mixer would work just fine as well. Having this hand mixer on hand, you probably wouldn't actually need a stand mixer. An all-around great product!
