Pros: Quieter & more efficient than comparable air conditioners.

The Bottom Line: Very good overall, but they could have refined a few finishing touches.

I purchased our unit during the early summer of 2000, when my wife was pregnant (if you've ever had a pregnant wife in the summer time, you know what I mean). I had done some research for a couple of weeks prior to purchasing it, and I found it (on sale) to be the lowest cost for the (5600) BTU's/hr, and it was also the most efficient one (rated 11 on a scale of 1-10!).
Pros:
1. Very quiet - now (read "Cons:" below though!)
2. Power efficient (rated 11 out of 10 on the energy-saver!)
3. Very effective cooling - cools down our 20' room nicely
4. It comes with a remote control that can control on/off, temperature, and fan speed.
5. Electronic thermostat (set it to a temperature)
6. Has a vent pull lever to bring in fresh air
7. There is a timer function (although I haven't used it)
Cons:
1. After the first day of use, it began having a water swishing sound when it turned on. As it turned out, condensation water had accumulated by the outside coils and was trapped within the outside pan. There was no drain hole, so I carefully drilled a hole in the bottom of the outside pan although the manual says not to and allowed the water to drain. It is now very quiet.
2. The left side of the control panel pushes in unexpectedly.
3. The air flow is not as "forceful" as compared to some other air conditioners.
4. Sometimes it takes a minute or so for the unit to kick in. For example, if you lower the air conditioner temperature while the unit is dormant, it will take it a minute or so to "wake up" and start cooling the air.
Overall we're very happy with it, although it does have its "quirks". That swishing water was a strange one though; every time it turned on it sounded as if we we pouring water into a styrofoam cooler... I somehow doubt that this was in the design specs.
