I live in Hawaii with high humidity and the 71055 kick's butt!
I had bought the 71055 unit from Sear's to replace worn out Westinghouse AC unit of the same BTU.
The nice little features of this unit, is that it can be mounted as an in wall unit or window unit for compact window mounting. I'm using it as an in wall unit. The installation took me only 8 minutes to remove old AC unit and install the 71055. It even has ledge support on the bottom of the 71055 which makes it handy for mounting purposes.
After the installation was done, I left it untouched for 2 hours to let the Freon settle back to it's original state. Turned on the power, and it worked like a charm. I was expecting the "swooshing noise" that other people had posted in their reviews about the 71055, but I got none of those noises. At first I had set the temperature to 60, and for the first hour it seemed like I had the fan set on high with no difference to the current room temperature. After the 2nd hour the room got chilly, and I was quite shocked, I had to raise the temperature to a higher setting to make it cool instead of freezing. The Remote control was very handy at this time.
In the manual it has 6 known noises that the 71055 can make and what it's symptoms are, and that comes standard with most AC units today, but at least the manual explains that noises and prepares you for it. So far I have none of the 5 noises listed from the manual other than when I use the Auto Cooling feature, the noises from the AC's thermostat adjusting to the room temperature, and it's noise is bearable. I have been using the 71055 for about 2 months now, and I'm loving it.
Some of the nice features of the 71055:
Window mounting Screens if needed.
Front Face panel comes off easy, for filter cleaning and entire frontal inspections.
Remote Control and battery included 2 AA.
Temperature settings from 60F to 90F.
Fresh Vent Control
4-Way Louvers
1 year Warranty on AC
5 year Warranty on Sealed Refrigeration System
Remote Control 9 Features:
Turn it OFF/ON, Change Temperature settings to 60F through 90F, Change Fan speeds HI/MED/LOW, Auto Cool, Fan only, Power Saver, Timer Delay, Sleep, Auto Check Filter warning.
The only missing feature that this remote controller should have had was a led display for current temperature set at.
I would recommend trying to get this before your Sear's Outlet goes out of stock as this model is discontinued, maybe you will get a better "Sale Price" since it's in the middle of the summer and it's a discontinued model number. I have had no problems, and this unit is on 24/7 for 2 months now.
