The Only A/C That Doesn't Make Me Sweat When I Install It
by Sloucho | Jun 16 '01
Pros: There's a remote control . . .
Cons: . . . that serves as yet another perfectly useless piece of clutter.

LG,

As everyone knows, Kellydeal's boogers are tastier than bird's nest soup--and twice as expensive. I know that it is short-sighted of her to eat them instead of selling them to the highest bidder, but can't she be forgiven for succumbing to temptation from time to time? I mean, they're HERS after all.

KD,

You Chicago gals certainly hang together, don't you? How could you have know that the casual mention you make of LG would result in her writing such a flattering portrayal of you? I've got an inane story for you: Once, as my high school's marching band marched past my house as I was doing my typical garage band thing with some guitarists, we opened the door and started playing as loudly as we could, and changing tempos (and even time signatures) every few measures to throw the band off.

It was better than sex (at least the clumsy sex that one gets in high school).

Kellydeal brushes with CREST (Reply to this comment)
by Lobstergirl
Oh, I love it when Kellydeal mentions me in a comment! Even though I know she only wants to be mentioned in return.

Kellydeal eats her boogers.

I know this air conditioner is not for me because I require one that produces more noise than the decks of an aircraft carrier. Noises from surrounding apartments drive me nuts, and I need a source of ambient noise loud enough to block out ALL of them.

Leave it to you ... (Reply to this comment)

to make an AC review entertaining...

And leave it to me to tell another mediocre story that has little relevance...

I have an old hand me down AC unit that spews a meager 5000 BTUs but does the job. I have no idea how old it is, but it every half an hour or so, it'll rattle the window like the old one you mentioned.

It used to annoy me in my old apartment, with it's quiet scenery crickets & all... but I've recently moved this past week to an intersection that resembles 'street hysteria' that Lobstergirl has mentioned to me before. The past few nights have been cool so windows have been open - which means it's screaming drunken people, midnight to 6am construction and what would seem to be motocross racing in the street over the weekend (tonight - a marching band!) And even though it's a better location (really, it is) that hysteria kinda puts the whole rickety AC thing in perspective for me.

Ok, babble done! Great job, off to read more!

But it's that cat who's been reading all your reviews - not me - he just fills me in. So i guess if that remote could control my cat, then, in turn, maybe i actually could alter the weather.

I will not have you undermining my authority, so I'll say this once again: The weather is controlled by those who read my reviews. Please let's not have any further misunderstandings on this issue.

RE: Complaint

Andrea,

Thanks so much for contacting us concerning the problem/bug/abuse that you detected. We are looking into the matter and should be attending to it early next week. Until then, please remember that it's always better to write the first review of, say, an insanely expensive BBQ grill than, say, the 486th review of Shrek. We wish you luck in your efforts to become an advisor/resolve the problem with the person who has been plagiarizing your reviews/restart your computer after the glitch for which we assume no responsibility crashed it.

We hope you found this response as helpful to you as your criticism/bug report/complaint was to us. Readers and writers like you are our greatest asset!

Sincerely,
The epinions staff/Nirav/God

Okay, now for my response:

Ms. Duck,

It would have served me right if you had NH'ed it after all the trouble you took to give me a rating. Consider me justly reprimanded, duly chastened, and resolved never to tamper with a piece in the wake of submission again. I just had it in my head that no one would actually bother reading a piece on air conditioners anyway. And you, with all your graciousness and patience and that warm, gooey duckiness that only you possess, make me feel as if my faithlessness in the epinions community was completely unwarranted. Never again, I say. Never again.

Fiona,

I abase myself before you and ask forgiveness.

I'm really and truly sorry about placing this review (intended, as you rightly suspected, as an essay on Mr. Sulu's anti-sweat cream); but I'm even more sorry about the semi-colon; there's no place for that kind of posturing, especially not from a man who attended the University of North Texas, universally acknowledged to be the Harvard of the greater Denton metropolitan area.

Please love me again; I need your approval. I won't give you any more off-topic cr*p; I promise.

.

Maybe i could just set around the living room and pretend that i'm changing the weather with it (or controlling the behavior of the cat). Yeah right, me and my visions of grandeur - the cat's the one who controls the weather.

Letter of complaint (Reply to this comment)
by pluckyduck
Dear Mr. Sloucho,

I recently (yesterday) caught this review while it was on the fence. I was mildly excited to not only have a Geniune Sloucho Creation just one mouse click away, but to also have the opportunity to be the first kid on the block to Read and Rate.

I read. I enjoyed. I went to rate and was greeted with the most discourteous message that the piece was no longer available because the author was modifying it in draft form. Hrumph.

Okay, I said to myself, he won't be long. So I waited and pressed again. Same message. Again. Same message.

I went to the bathroom, came back, and I still couldn't rate the durn thing. Still in draft form.

So, in conclusion, I would respectfully request that you proofread your dang pieces first and not hang me up whilst I am trying to rate.

My time is important.

I thank you for your anticipated cooperation,

Andrea

I think we both know that any discussion of "sweat" belongs in the health and beauty category, under the appropriate anti-perspirant and/or deodorant categories.

Please do to try to stay ON TOPIC! I know you can do it, Mike!

Thank you!

Putting finger to forehead to show pensiveness and "concern" (Reply to this comment)
by nathsmom
Dear Sloucho,

Who else would have the g-dam *guts* to say "hah! to your data!". That is the kind of old fashioned gumption we don't get to see much of anymore, and by rights, have never actually seen in Canada.
I really admire a person who can take a stand like that.

However, I am not sure (and I say that patronizingly, because we both know the truth) how it relates to Star Trek, and therefore I am forced to give your review a rating of Not Helpful, as it is off topic. (See, even though I am polite about it, I show you that I won't take any off-topic cr*p).

Furthermore I object to your use of the semi-colon (in the second paragraph) That, in my "Epinion", was punctiliatory grandstanding, and not much more. I really expected more from a Harvard man!

Sincerely,

Naths (won't be fooled) mom

You're right about TX and central air. My parents moved from Grand Prairie to Nacogdoches to Amarillo to El Paso and never once occupied a house without central air. But I did have to live without A/C in TX when I was assigned to the most antiquated dormitory at UNT, Bruce Hall. Just you try to fend off the Dallas heat with a ceiling fan and see how much luck you have.

Under $200? Are you kidding me? That'll teach me to do my shopping at American Appliance (and perhaps their proclivity to overcharge explains why AA recently went under.) Thanks for the feedback.

Since you like it so much Epinions lists it for sale at Rexstores for $159! Plus $20 for shipping. I didn't think they were so cheap.

Why don't I have one?
