| sharibrooks's Full Review: Maytag MDB9150A 24 in. Built-in Dishwasher |
First of all, let me explain that I purchased the MDBH950B from Home Depot about two years ago. It is very similar to this model and when I couldn't find any reviews of the model I purchased, I thought it might be helpful to people to add one.
My 1936 apartment affords me all the cutting edge, modern luxuries of living in, well, 1936. After years of hand washing and smelly stacks of dishes left "soaking" in the sink, I finally bit the bullet and bought this dishwasher. Even though I live in a rental, it was still worth every penny and then some.
OUTSIDE
The dishwasher is very sleek and comes in white, black and steel. I have the black and it occasionally shows fingerprints on the shiny front. This is probably less visible on the white version, the way car paint works, I suppose. The buttons are all soft touch buttons, so you barely have to push them. They light up when you do so, so you know you've made the correct selection. The machine is self explanatory, I never even read the directions.
INSIDE
The washer has one of the deepest lower shelf bases I have seen in a washer (on one side.) This is far handier than you might imagine. I put huge pots, strainers, the inside of my bread machine, just about everything fits in there. The top shelf has a very deep side on one side so that you can place tall glasses in there without problems. The racks are vinyl coated, so I've never scratched or chipped a thing. I put my delicate crystal in this dishwasher without any problems.
My favorite things about the inside of this washer are the SHELF OPTIONS. The top shelf has two pull down racks that have grooves to hold wine glasses in place. Never break another wine glass! The bottom shelf has several options as well. The racks can be raised of lowered and snap into place. This allows for wider cleanables like pots, or smaller ones like plates. Additionally, the silverware caddy on the bottom shelf has a pull down lid that snaps closed to contain little items like contact lens cases or little lids. It is also removable. The shelves pull out very smoothly as well.
CYCLES
There are apparently four different wash cycles. I never mess with the options on my appliances. I wash everything in "Normal" and it comes out perfectly. I don't do a lot of prewashing, because I'm too lazy and too busy, and everything comes out fine. I've had one or two knives come out with something caked on, but that's true of any dishwasher. It won't remove hardened food that's been dried or baked onto a plate, that you'll have to clean off first for sure. But coffee grime that's been molding in the bottom of a mug for a week will disappear in the dishwasher easily. Not that I ever leave that sort of thing. ;)
There is a SANITIZE option that I used once after my apartment was tented for termites. I have no way of knowing, of course, if it did anything, but it's a nice option for people with allergies or illnesses, I'm sure.
There is a 2/4/6 HOUR DELAY on washing which I love. With one touch, I can set it to clean after I've left for work so that it won't mess with my shower water.
It is called the QUIET SERIES for a reason. I can talk on the phone, watch TV or entertain guests right in my kitchen without being disrupted. It's incredibly quiet.
There is a detergent dispenser and a rinse aid dispenser. I use both. They are easy to use and seem very sturdy.
ENERGY STAR
It is energy star compliant, which is great in states where the energy crisis has made electricity cost mega bucks.
Overall, I am so happy with this purchase, that I will probably take it with me when I move to a house. It is well worth the money!
