Pros: Looks good, can fit a lot of dishes, very flexible loading capability, pretty quiet operation
Cons: Long wash cycle and DOESN'T CLEAN WELL at all!!!
The Bottom Line: AVOID this machine at all costs! It DOES NOT CLEAN well at all. After struggling for 1.5 years, we're having to buy a new dishwasher!

We chose this machine based upon the Consumer Reports rating---it's the first time in my experience they've been SO wrong! We purchased the machine in June 2002. It cleaned poorly from DAY 1. After being service repeatedly to no avail, in Aug 2002, the store at which we bought it replaced it with a brand new one. I figured we had had a lemon and hoped for the best. The new one performed just as poorly as the first one!
Now, yes the machine does hold a lot of dishes and is very flexible in its loading capacity. However, I too experienced the problem regarding flopping dishes. And while you can fit a lot into the utensils tray, if you have more than a few pieces of flatware in there, they don't get clean. Well, even with just a few pieces in there they often don't get clean! At any rate, I feel others covered the physical features of the dishwasher well. The most important thing I can contribute to this discussion is to report my experience with its cleaning performance.
As I said, the replacement dishwasher was just as poor as the original. Over the past nearly 2 years we've had this thing serviced repeatedly. One of the first things they tried (about 1.5 years ago) was replacing the motor. Initially after doing so, we did get maybe 2 or 3 clean loads---the only truly clean loads we've EVER gotten out of the machine! Other things that were suggested and that we tried were: using LESS detergent, using MORE detergent, using different BRANDS of detergent, scraping the dishes more thoroughly, NOT scraping the dishes (we were told the machine needed some food to work on otherwise the dishes would have film on them--doesn't that sound ridiculous?!), running the hot water at the tap prior to starting the dishwasher (this is a must--there's no hope of getting ANY kind of cleaning without this), using more Jet-Dry, using less Jet-Dry, running vinegar through the machine--you name it, we've done it. About the only thing we haven't tried is standing on our heads while running it!! Yet we still get consistently DIRTY dishes. Half (or more) of the dishes/utensils come out with crud stuck on them, stains, a cloudy film--- it's gross! My kids refuse to eat/drink out of the things that come out of the dishwasher! We often have to run the dishes through 2-3 times. It's RIDICULOUS! The inside of the machine is also dirty/stained after running a load--so how can the dishes possibly be clean?!
I've initiated the process to have Whirlpool buy back the machine. They're coming out (for about the 50th time) to service it next week and will call the Whirlpool tech line to confirm that it can't be fixed. We'll see what kind of offer they give us. I feel we've been MORE than reasonable and extremely patient throughout this ordeal. I REALLY don't want any kind of Whirlpool machine after this experience, but I don't know if that's the only way they'll buy it back. We'll see.

8/30/2004 UPDATE
Woo-hoo! Whirlpool is buying back the machine! And we don't have to get another Whirlpool! They gave us the option of an outright buy-back or exchange for their current top-of-the-line---but seemed to prefer that we take the buy-back, which is our preference anyway. But I really think they didn't want to risk having to continue dealing with us should the new machine not clean well. And frankly, we didn't want to risk having to go through this again either. Of course, now I'm gun-shy and have no idea what we'll replace it with. ...
