Cons: SALESPERSONS! Don't have them inflict the pain on you!
The Bottom Line: It's unfortunate that Kirby is a good product because their sales force will eventually discourage people from buying it. Too expensive and not a good enough warranty.
graphire's Full Review: Kirby G6 Bagged Upright Vacuum
I was recently insulted by the Kirby company. I'm sorry to have to say this, because I was actually very interested in their product. I know of people who have had their Kirby vacuums for over 20 years with only regular maintenance problems.
My problems with the Kirby representative came when, in being pressured to purchase the highly overpriced machine (she began at the usual over-inflated price of $1500), she spent the next half hour (or more) on MY telephone. I was trying to reach my husband at work to talk to him about the machine (the G6). We had other major purchases to consider at the time and the price she would not budge from, $900, was still too high for me. I don't know who she was all calling, but she made AT LEAST 20 calls - no apology for not using her own cell phone. I was getting pretty agitated by then and even commented that how could my husband call home since she'd been on the phone the whole time! This went completely over her head.
Besides the phone calls on my phone, she brought absolutely no cleaning equipment of her own to clean her machine after the carpet cleaning demonstration. I've never yet seen a demonstration where the audience had to supply the clean-up tools, or clean up after the demonstrator. She also left the dirty sample filters all over the house.
I was never able to reach my husband, but wanted him to see the machine anyway (despite the sales tactics), but the representative told me I had to put down a deposit and she would take my current vacuum. I gave her a check for a minimal amount - just to get her out of the house.
After talking to my husband later, we decided we didn't want the machine for the high price and my husband called the office the next day. The supervisor of the representative said he wanted to come out and show my husband the machine and talk about the price. Well, when he came, all he did was demonstrate how it vacuumed for about 5 minutes. He never went over the warranty, the accessories, the carpet shampooer or anything else with him. He would not budge on the price either, so we told him we didn't want it.
He did bring my old machine back in, but I noticed right away that they had taken the bag out of it. I was able to put one of the Kirby bags in it, but later when I wanted to use one of my accessory pieces I noticed it was missing. I called the office (this was 5 or 6 days after the machine was returned) to inform them of the missing piece and was told I would get a return call that afternoon. Over a week and 3 calls later, I finally received a return call from the office manager saying he would look for the piece. When I asked him why I had not received a call back sooner he rudely said he had just heard about it (unlikely).
I have still not received my deposit back from the company and it is 12 'working' days since our contract was canceled. The cancellation contract requires all monies to be returned 'within 10 working days'.
As much as I think the Kirby brand vacuum is a very good product (although they don't have a very good warranty for the price you pay), their sales style is vulgar and derogatory.
