byronm's Full Review: Kirby G6 Bagged Upright Vacuum
Being the clean freak and allergy sufferer I am, I lucked out and had a visit by the Kirby sales folks. They came to my door, my wife answered and they handed her a candle and said "you don't need to buy anything, can we come in for a second" and not but one second later we had 3 big boxes in our living room and 3 people putting together a vacuum cleaner.
They did there demo, the guy was a "newbie" so it took a long time. I wasn't really impressed since I had seen it all before with my mother's Kirby. Sure they show it cleans, it sucks, it does the dishes practically but I was aware of what I could get myself into before hand, so I played it off. It wasn't until they compared my 400.00 "windtunnel" Kenmore I owned to the Kirby that I noticed our "expensive" vacuum really wasn't doing me much good. As an allergy sufferer I had been vacuuming regularly in hopes it would help.. all in all it just pounded the stuff in deeper and cleaned up some hair, about it! Anyhow, they showed off the power, showed off the accessories and then plugged in the simple shampoo system. After the shampoo, I was hooked. It made the room smell fresh (2 dogs, 3 cats), pulled up some spots that were in high traffic areas and even lifted some stains from a wine spill! Knowing I needed a carpet cleaning, this was the seller for me! I was quoted not three weeks prior almost 400 bucks to shampoo/clean my carpets so I started asking about price. The sales people did their “you will save x here and x there” and tried to give value where value didn't exist and then said "we will sell it to you for 1500 and give you 100.00 for trading in your vacuum".
I nearly gagged! 1500 is a lot of money for a vacuum cleaner, I could pay someone to be a maid for a while for that much mint, but I thought of bargaining. How about 800, a lower interest rate and I will pay half now. They didn't budge at first, and said "I can give my commission and drop it down to 1100" and I didn't budge. The famous call to the manager then ensued and 15 minutes later I was the proud owner of a Kirby Ultra G for 800 bucks.
While 800 is still allot of money, it is only double what Ipaid for my old cleaner, plus the ability to "Dry" shampoo, and really clean the carpets and furniture.
My house is clean, smells great and looks great. Don't pay 1500 because you don't need to! Ask for 800 and stand firm.
Don't spend your money on the cheap cleaners either! The only downside, is the little bit of know how to change accessories and the fact that it is so durable that there is the added weight. Other then that, the self propelled unit drives itself when engaged and effortlessly cleans even the most hard to clean carpets/rugs and couches around! My favorite accessory is the brush unit that spins around really quick and really lifts cat hair/dander out of the couch like there is no tomorrow!
A time saver and a clean persons dream come true! You will have to pay the price, but in my opinion, it is well worth it. Just don’t let the sells person take you for a spin! Be honest, let them know what you want and how much you will be willing to pay!
