| porcelina22's Full Review: Kirby G6 Bagged Upright Vacuum |
The only reason my husband and I ever even thought of getting a $1500 vacuum cleaner was because his brother is a Kirby salesman. A newly-trained salesman. With less than 10 sales. We felt bad for him. We needed a vacuum cleaner.
Put all these circumstances together, along with having 2 small children that enjoy picking miniscule pieces of dirt off the floor, and you have an eager salesman, and 2 equally eager potential buyers.
Let me tell you, it was a good thing the salesman was a trusted family member. During the course of the demonstration our salesmen went into almost every room of our house. He vacuumed underneath our couches and beds. He vacuumed our bathroom tile. He even vacuumed our pillows. At one point he went into our kitchen to use our sink. I don't think I would have felt comfortable with a stranger doing all this.
After the demonstration, and after being thoroughly embarrassed by how much dirt we were living with, we had to go through all the paperwork. I felt like I was getting ready to buy a car or a house! There were forms, pay stubs, and credit card statements strewn all over our living room by the time we actually got the approval from the financing agency.
But now we have a vacuum cleaner. And, I must say that I am impressed! There isn't a speck of dirt left on our floor. In fact, I don't think there is any carpet left due to the incredible sucking action of the Kirby. But, is it worth paying $67 for 2 1/2 years?
Well, it is for us, but not for everyone. We have 4 cats, 2 small children, and a family with a history of allergies, so we needed a vacuum that could really clean. But, if you are single, or have no kids, you could use a standard vacuum and be just as happy with the results. And durability was an issue for us as well. The Kirby will last forever. You will never need to buy another vacuum, which is good for neurotic cleaners like myself, who vacuum at least once a day.
~~~~Positives~~~~
Can switch from an upright type-cleaner into a canister type, as well as a portable type
Much lighter than previous models
Can purchase many extras, such as a carpet shampoo kit and floor buffer
Leaves floor extra clean
Helps reduce allergy attacks (due to micron Hepa filter and deep cleaning)
Has 34-foot long cord
Comes with tangle-resistant hoses and other attachments
Also has attachment storage case
~~~~Negatives~~~~
Expensive, even without buying all the "extras"
Bulky
It's hard to change between attachments
Demonstrations can be long, salesmen can be pushy
Unless you pay up-front, you have to hassle with finance companies, and you have a monthly payment
I would recommend this vacuum to people with children, allergies, or pets, but not for single apartment dwellers. A smaller, less expensive vacuum would work just as well for them.
