| pkmom's Full Review: Rainbow Technologies E series Canister Wet/Dry Vac... |
The best thing about owning a Rainbow is the way it cleans. You don't have to wonder how well it's picking up the lint and dirt from the floor because you can see it in the canister. You don't have to be concerned about loose dirt flying around because it's trapped in the water.
Being an asthmatic, it's difficult to impossible to use the standard type of vacuum without having an asthma flare. This vacuum was suggested by my doctor and several friends. We had to check it out.
The Rainbow representative came to our home for a little over an hour. He demonstrated the vacuum and answered our questions - I had several.
One of the questions was how it would be to use. It's a canister type vacuum with another piece that hooking on to it which resembles the more traditional upright vacuum. Truthfully, it looked like it was going to be a pain and I wasn't sure I wanted it. However, after he demonstrated and let me use it for several minutes I was hooked.
The powered piece you use to clean the carpet with is very easy to use. The base unit of the Rainbow that contains the water is on wheels and is easy to pull along behind you. There are several attachments so virtually no area in the house is impossible to clean with this machine. My children were 7 and 8 at the time. They were even able to vacuum with it.
Emptying the water is difficult. However, I can honestly relate that at no time have I have an asthma problem while emptying the water. That was a problem for me when emptying the bad from my old upright. Since breathing is one of my favorite things to do, I'll empty the water.
One thing you never want to do is leave the water in the machine for several days. This happened while I was out of town and my husband needed to clean a spill. He failed to empty the water until I discovered the odor from the vacuum cleaner upon coming home. He will not be doing that again.
Another great thing about it is it's really heavy duty. We have picked up sawdust, cleaned the car, and gotten up water with it. Cleaning our kitchen floor is a breeze. You can get a scrub brush and suction attachment to pull up water.
The attachment looks and acts very much like commercial window cleaners use. Just pour some water one the floor, scrub with the brush, vaccum up with the Rainbow. You get results that look like you've scrubbed the floor by hand -without all that labor.
Our representative left us with oil scents we could use to freshen the air in our home. Eucalyptus was one. I'd heard from a friend - and was skeptical- that you could use this oil to help clear your sinus passages.
One night my daughter was having a problem with croup. It looked like we were going to be headed to the ER. Nothing we tried was working. My husband dragged out the Rainbow and hooked it up. We place it in her room with the eucalyptus drops in the water. Her croup did ease shortly thereafter allowing her - and us- to get some rest.
We also own the carpet cleaning attachment. Again, it's bulky but does and excellent job.
The cost is a challenge. It's an expensive piece of equipment. I estimate we paid around 1200.00. That's a lot for a vacuum. However, it's also saved us money that we would have had to have spent on other allergy medications. My husband and I are also convinced it is what kept our daughter from having to go to the doctor in the middle of the night because of her croup.
The machine isn't for everyone. If you have someone demonstrate a Rainbow ask them to let you use it for a few minutes. Then you can better decide if you feel like you would use the vacuum.
It's also good for cleaning mattresses and pillows with. You sure can't do that with a regular vacuum!
All in all, I'm very glad we have a Rainbow and wouldn't go back to using anything else.
