| rosedaletexas's Full Review: Frigidaire RanFCS388WH Range |
We moved into our new home six months ago. I've always cooked on gas stoves, and after half a year of trying to learn to live with the electric range that came with the house, I threw in the towel and went out to buy a new stove with all the bells and whistles.
I found just what I was looking for with this Frigidaire. It includes a convection oven, one high-powered burner that boils water quickly, and one "simmer" burner with lower power that's handy for melting chocolate. The electronic controls are easy to use. The stove comes with a warming drawer rather than a storage drawer underneath, a handy feature for keeping a freshly baked quiche warm until the guests arrive. It has an elegant stainless steel look at a price far less than the professional stoves. The oven is self-cleaning, although I have not had occasion to clean it yet.
The knobs are on the top of the stove rather than on the front, so that if the stove is installed in an island or peninsula of the kitchen counter (as ours is), you can adjust the temperatures while standing either in front or behind the stove. A friend also noted that having the knobs on the top makes the stove more child-proof.
But the real gem of this stove is the convection oven. The oven is extra-roomy and comes with three adjustable racks, and you really can bake three trays of cookies at once! Cooking times are reduced on average by one-third, which in the southern climate where I live is an enormous energy saver in hot weather.
I shopped around and found this stove for $1400 at a mom and pop appliance store, which was $100 cheaper than its price at the major chain stores.
When I was shopping for this stove, I compared it with a JennAir, Maytag, and Kitchen Aid with similar features. It was the least expensive of the four and was the only one with a warming drawer.
