We had purchased a new home in the fall of 2001, and took delivery of this refrigerator (as well as Frigidaire range and dishwasher) in November 2001. Spending the extra money on stainless steel, high quality appliances was a big decision for us - and we thought that Frigidaire was a reputable, quality brand. We were very excited.

The fridge was fine for the first little while - a bit noisy (the ice maker clunks and clangs), but otherwise great. It's got a spacious and well organized interior, and looks pretty high tech.
Our first problem occurred about 6 months after purchase - woke up one morning, tried to pour a glass of orange juice, and found ice chunks in it (in fact most of the items in the fridge had become partially frozen). I immediately assumed that hubby had turned up the temperature setting for the fridge, so I turned it down a notch and the problem went away.
Around this time, we discovered that sometimes when we opened the freezer door, the entire ice/water panel would activate (crush/cube/extra ice/filter reset buttons all engaged) and the light would come on. It was a real pain to manually re-set the buttons after every freezer door opening, plus the icemaker would not work unless this was done.
August 2002 - 9 months after purchase - woke up one morning and found that the entire refrigerator had frozen everything SOLID!!! Even the mayonnaise and salad dressing! We lost a good amount of money in groceries when the fridge pulled this stunt as pretty much everything had to be thrown out. After turning the temperature setting down to it's lowest level and realizing that the fridge was still acting up, we called Frigidaire-warranty approved repair service for our area. They were sympathetic. "Frigidaire?" they said, after I described the problem. "Every recent side-by-side model has had that problem. It's a dampener unit you need, we'll be out next week to fix it.".
The repair fellow replaced the dampener unit (no charge) and ordered a new circuit board for the freezer panel, which was now lighting up like a Christmas tree every time the freezer was opened.
He also commented that these Frigidaire side-by-side models were ALL experiencing the same problems with the dampener units and circuit boards, and that he was surprised / annoyed that Frigidaire hadn't issued a mass re-call. He said he was fixing several each week and that, although Frigidaire was aware of the problem, they weren't issuing an advisory or recall to their customers. Indeed!
It's now February 2003 - after multiple phone calls and misplaced orders, and after many claims on the part of the repair company that "the parts were on back order as there's a shortage", we finally got the circuit board in the freezer door fixed today. It's been aggravating.
Overall - it's still a good-looking fridge. BUT - I'm very annoyed at the fact that we spent so much money on a "premium" appliance only to have multiple problems within the first 9 months of ownership. I'm FURIOUS at the fact that Frigidaire has been aware of the consistent problems with these models and has not followed up with their customers to correct the issues.
