Why I am a vacuum's worst nightmare

To begin we have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a baby. A baby who is just starting to crawl, even. This means, I want my floors clean and free of animal hair, dust, spills and drag-ins from outside (I have a deck and also they are doing construction on our street which means lots of dirt and dust!).
We used to both be smokers as well, though I quit when I got pregnant, and my husband has been banished to smoking only outdoors for the sake of me and the baby. Hopefully he'll quit soon too.
It seems like before we had the baby I was always killing vaccum cleaners. We've had a variety of models ranging from canister vacs to upright. Upright seemed to do the job best. And regardless of the "type" of machine, its really frustrating to have to change the bags constantly, and with a multi-pet household bag changing was getting to be a weekly endeavor.
How the Hoover Wind Tunnel Bagless came to our home
When I got pregnant and started going on a cleaning frenzy my husband got me the Fantom Fury vaccuum cleaner. I loved this machine so much. It was bagless so I could see how much it was sucking in. It was lightweight and the first couple times we used it I was flabbergasted at how much dirt, dust and animal fluff this thing sucked in. I would empty the canister after each time that I used it.
However, as time went by it seemed to stop sucking. It wouldn't be able to suck up a schnipply of paper or crumb - yet the canister would still fill up with dust. If the particle was any bigger than a molecule we had to use the extender tube (and that was just a pain in the butt). This vaccum was expensive but cheaply made and I was getting really frustrated with it. My poor husband was having to take it apart on almost a daily basis (or at least every time I used it).
Enter --- The Hoover WindTunnel Bagless
I actually looked this up on Epinions.com and some other review sites and it looked pretty good to me. My husband went off to Target in search of a Hoover WindTunnel. There are several different models of this vac, we have the Mach 4.7 It cost around 250 dollars but the retail price is over 300 in some places. You can find it online for less, but then bear in mind that you will have to pay shipping (and this comes in a BIG BOX).
Features of this vaccuum
Well, to begin with this is Bagless. The invention of bagless vaccuums was a wonderful one. No more running out to buy a new bag for your vaccuum, searching madly for the right one that fits and you have company coming in an hour. Instead of a bag, the Hoover Wind Tunnel Upright Bagless Vaccum sucks all the dirt and stuff into a clear plastic chamber. They call it a Twin Chamber™ System, which is a system to capture dirt in a self-contained dirt container. The chamber is visible from the outside so you can see how much is getting sucked in and easily know when you need to change it.
I felt like such a slob after starting to use these clear bagless vaccuums. You'd be amazed all the stuff that gets sucked in, when your carpet looks like it is clean. But after using this vaccuum, my carpet looked like a different carpet and the room didn't smell like dogs. The reason for this is that the Hoover Bagless Upright uses H.E.P.A. air filter. Its supposedly a long life filter as well, minimizing frequent changes. I used to run a separate HEPA filter in my living room to help cleanse the air (since we used to smoke), but since I quit and my husband no longer smokes in the house, and the addition of a HEPA filter on our vaccuum cleaner - we no longer need to run a separate HEPA filter.
Hoover uses "Patented WindTunnel™ Technology ". WindTunnel technology is just what it sounds, the suction is like a little tornado sucking up the dirt. In fact the logo on the front of ours is of a little tornado with the words "Hoover Wind Tunnel Technology". Hoover, also, claims that this vaccuum picks up more dirt than any other clean-air upright. From my experience, they are absolutely correct in this claim.
This vaccuum is great for large areas of carpeting. Its 15 inches across which means large areas are covered quickly. The wheels can be raised up to 8 different heights, for various piles of carpeting or use on wood floors etc. The light in front is pretty bright and useful at spotting the stray penny or lego that might be hiding in your carpet pile. This machine has all the bells and whistles, including a Powered Hand Tool and a covered Tool storage area, up front. You'll find a small brush attachment, edge groomers, and a hose. This means that in addition to large areas, its very easy to vaccum things like blinds, edges, stairs etc. Stairs, yep! We have very steep stairs and the Hoover Bagless has a special feature just for stairs. The 3 position handle makes using it on stairs very easy.
As far as the looks of this machine. Well, ours is covered in a gold metallic "sparkly" tone and all the "clear" plastic is dark tinted. Same old vaccum shape with a space-age finish. Its a vaccuum, its not a centerpiece. We keep ours tucked away. As far as size - its pretty big as far as uprights go - so this could be a downside if you don't have a lot of space. Also - when lifting or carrying the vaccuum its on the heavy side, but for pushing and vaccuuming itself it glides smooth and is very light.
On top of all the good things, it comes with a one year warranty. So if it should die in the future, I will be covered. All in all, we are very pleased with the Hoover WindTunnel Upright Bagless Vaccum Most of all, I am very impressed with how much dirt this thing can suck out of our carpets. It makes me comfortable putting our baby down on the carpet to play and knowing they are clean, even with a house of pets.
