Pros: Durable; versatile; awesome suction; excellent shampooer. Micron Magic Filtration and self-propelled drive are great!
Cons: It's heavier than other vacuums; converting to different functions can be a little inconvenient.
The Bottom Line: Kirby should be the first choice. I have used many vacuums, and have found Kirby to be superior to others both in performance and durability.

I got married in 1963, and like most newlyweds, we were on a tight budget. Outfitting a home with all the essentials took its toll, and I had to settle for an inexpensive vacuum cleaner. I had the idea that when that one gave up the ghost, I would get the Kirby I wanted. However, each time we needed a new vacuum, other pressing issues caused us be practical, and it was replaced again with another cheap machine. It became my life's ambition to own a Kirby. Over the years we hosted a number of Kirby salesmen, even though we knew we were not going to purchase one at the time. I just knew that someday, somehow, I would own a Kirby.
Finally, this past summer (2005), an opportunity presented itself that would make my dream come true. A friend had a Kirby that she was selling on consignment. I made her an offer, which she accepted. Then she even delivered the Kirby G-5 to my home! I cannot describe how delighted I am with it. The first time I used it, I started with a new bag, and pulled out 3 pounds of dirt that was deep down in the carpets, even though they had been vacuumed frequently prior to this. The shampooer did a wonderful job too. My husband is not easily impressed, but he has commented that Kirby is probably the best vacuum he has seen so far.
Now my daughter's vacuum recently died (inexpensive throw-away type), and she tried to convince me that she needed my Kirby more than I do, because she has a new baby and several pets in her house. NO WAY! We won an auction on E-Bay so she could have her own!
