joeroe2005's Full Review: Kirby G5 Bagged Upright Vacuum
I must first start by saying that I am something of a vacuum aficionado. Ever since I was a kid, I was always fascinated at how these machines worked and I loved seeing what they could do. I hate buying appliances that do only one thing one way. When I first saw that a Kirby could be converted into a canister cleaner, and had an attachment for just about everything, I was immediately hooked. I knew, however, that I could never afford a $1,000 dollar vacuum cleaner and I would have to find a different way of obtaining one. I did a little homework and I discovered that you can purchase a refurbished Kirby at a fraction of the cost of the new one. I know many may be hesitant to purchase a machine thats been refurbished, but its truly the way to go. If you have a good dealership in your area, like mine, they install the newest motor available in their refurbished models. They make sure that the vacuum is in perfect running order before you purchase it.
I went to my local dealership and inquired about a refurbished Kirby G3 model, which were manufactured from 1990 to 1993. I was able to watch an entire demonstration of the refurbished machine right there in the office (which is a lot less stressful than having a demonstration in your home by the way) The machine was in perfect running order and came complete with the entire attachment set and rug shampooer. The final price: $250.00. Mind you, I purchased the machine in 2001; almost a decade after the G3 model was made. But it was in excellent cosmetic condition and I was impressed with the performance.
I had the G3 for about 4 years when I began to get the craving for a newer machine. I had my eye on the flashy G5 model even before I purchased the G3, but at the time I made the purchase the G5 was still a very new machine (manufactured from 1996 to 1999) and was a little out of my budget. Four years later and I decided I would at least go back and ask about purchasing a G5 from the same dealer. I received another impressive demonstration in which the salesman reviewed the various improved features on the G5. I was sold, and after trading in my G3 I was able to get my G5 for an incredible $250.00.
My G5 is another refurbished model, but it has the new technology motor, the same one found in the Ultimate G model. It runs perfectly and it incredibly more powerful than my old G3. It was in perfect cosmetic order, with no dents dings, or scratches. The chrome was polished to a mirror finish and the dealer had installed a new set of wheels and a new bumper. Mind you now that all the parts match, meaning its a G5 through and through, and only genuine maroon-colored G5 replacement parts were used. I was fortunate to have a dealer who took this issue very seriously, and I was able to buy a machine thats not as good as new, its even better. I was also sold the full attachment kit which was included in the price. The attachment set was brand new and had never been used. I couldnt be happier with the purchase.
The G5 as I said has more suction power over previous models and also features the Micron-Magic filtration system. This bag system literally cleans the air as you vacuum, and removes airborne contaminants and irritants. It also leaves your room smelling fresh and rejuvenated after you vacuum. It also features some cosmetic changes, such as a redesigned headlight hood and belt lifter. I definitely see an improvement over my G3, and I would recommend the trade-up to anyone who is considering it. I would also point out that the G5 is essentially the same machine as the newer G6, just with a different color scheme, so you can save some money by opting for the G5 instead.
I truly believe that Kirby is the best vacuum on earth because of all it does for its owner and because they will last you for decades.
