We purchased our Kirby G5 about 3 years ago. At a cost of about $1795 plus finance charges it was a real stretch on the budget, but after seeing the benefits, we couldn't see not spending the money.

First of all, I hate door-to-door sales people, but this time, they didn't come door-to-door. They actually called to see if we were interested in a free, no obligation demonstration. Having heard that Kirby is "the best vacuum around", I decided, what the heck, let's see what it's all about.

The salesman used our vacuum, a Hoover, to vacuum an area of our living room. Afterwards, he went over it with the Kirby. I was appalled to see all that my vacuum had missed picking up! When he used the hand attachment to vacuum my mattress, I couldn't believe all of the dust and dirt that he got up! No wonder my dust allergies were so bad!

This vacuum has two "gears", neutral and drive. Neutral is for when the vacuum is not in use and drive is for when it is in use. It is heavy but in drive, it is very easy to maneuver. It almost "drives" itself. All you have to do is guide it.

There are many attachments for every crack, crevice or area that you come into contact with. The attachments are easy to install and use. I can very easily use this to vacuum my mini-van in a snap and do a professional job of it too! The shampooer does an excellent job without getting your carpet soaking wet. We use only the Kirby shampoo and products because we feel that they work best. (We have tried others in the shampooer, so I know I'm right on this one!)

Although generally I highly recommend this vacuum, there are a couple drawbacks. First of all is the weight of it. It was built to last and you can tell just by trying to pick it up! Second, the Kirby line of products are not in-expensive. Bags are quite expensive at 3 for $9.00 and are only available from Kirby dealers which aren't always convenient.

With all of this in mind, I have to admit that I'm not sorry that we made this purchase. I feel like the vacuum does a very thorough job of cleaning which is why we purchased it!
