I had a very dedicated love of Sanyo products. I had a Sanyo canister that was small and bag less for about twenty years. No joke. The motor is still humming, but the plastic wand had broken and my sweetie had wrapped the thing up in duct tape, but I thought it definitely was time to get a new canister. I checked into all the competition in all the stores and there was an issue with each one. I turned to the computer and found some neat Sanyo products online and sought my replacement- I chose the Sanyo 505T model.

Pros

1. There is an attractive see through quality to the machine. It is made of translucent plastic in Blue. It has an updated modern look to it. I find I am definitely drawn to products that not only perform well, but look nice too. I think it is the artist in me.

2. There is a telescoping metal rod that has replaced the plastic rod. The nice thing about it is there is an adjustment level to it that allows the user to adjust this to your own comfort height. Nice for us shrimpy gals.

3. The 10-amp motor has a lot of zip. I find it has a lot more power than my old Sanyo and tends to make the whole chore of vacuuming go a whole lot quicker. If you need to do chores, isn’t it nice to get it over so you can move on to bigger and better things? The motor is powerful and will aid in the pick up of all your dust and dirt.

4. There is the freedom from using bags with this model. I found this a time and expense saver and I adore this. There is a filter device that is easy to clean when the dust indicator reveals the canister is full. It is simply displayed on the front of the canister.

5. There is a turbo brush tool that comes with the machine. It has a simple switch on the front so you can transfer from floor to rugs in a snap. I have mostly hardwood floors in my home, and the tool picks up virtually anything in its path.

6. There is a convenient handle on the top of the machines that allows you to transport it easily to store it. It can be stored in an upright position too. This allows you to store it away in a small closet.

7. The machine comes with 2 other simple tools- a small crevice tool and a small brush. I personally don’t find much use for these tools, but they can be transported on the machine itself on a small hook device on the wand.


8. The price of 129 dollars seems like a fair money ticket after comparing similar vacuums in the bigger chain stores.






Cons


1. Although the outside is very attractive, I find that when I knock into a piece of furniture with the machine, it tends to leave a white scratch on the main body of the machine. You will need to be extra careful when handling this vacuum if you want it to look brand new.
2. The machine is a little heavy. I was definitely used to a small compact canister vacuum and this is more a whole house vacuum so its bulk takes getting used to.
3. The turbo tool is super, but it does not allow you to get under narrow openings like under certain low pieces of furniture. In my inventiveness, I have adapted the old Sanyo head to fit onto this model; this allows me to use both heads on the machine. If this will be your solo vacuum, you will need a small narrow hand held to get under small clearance spots.
4. I find the metal telescoping rod tends to slip out if you do not firmly attach it to the plastic connector rod. Nothing is perfect.
5. I assumed the machine was made in Japan till I turned over the machine and found a label from China. I was told Japan does not make them any more. I adore the manufacturing of products from Japan and felt this makes the difference in quality. If you want a model directly from Japan you will need to find a different model.


My Final Analysis in Vacuum 101

I think if you are looking for a decent vacuum for mostly hardwood floors with small area type rugs than this Sanyo may be the proper choice for you. The motor is strong, the company has a fine reputation for quality and the machine is a real looker. The guarantee is for one-year parts and labor and that seems like a fair guarantee. The machine is not perfect, but overall the positives out weigh the negative aspects.
