Pros: Energy efficient, water efficient, impressive quiet performance
Cons: A bit pricey
The Bottom Line: Unless something even better comes along from Europe, buy it. US manufacturers are too infatuated with their profitable driers.

| apass's Full Review: Equator EZ 3600 CEE Front Load All-in-One Washer /... |
In the US, this is one of the best washers, as far as I'm concerned. Rated in the top 5 for energy efficiency, it also doubles as a drier. As long as you load it properly, it hums along quietly even as it spins @ 800+ RPM.
The real advantage of this machine is its green conscience. One machine acts as both washer and drier: if nobody needed driers anymore, that's a lot of unnecessary manufacturing we could obviate. The horizontal axis means less power and water use. It also means less soap. Since there's no need for a vent, you save money on HVAC work too. Plus, the spin cycle is so furious you almost don't need to use the dry cycle; the clothes come out practically dry, and are completely so after 30 minutes on the clothes line. So you can save even more power by simply not using the dry cycle.
Now if only the other green appliances from Europe would show up sooner: hyper efficient refrigerators, Swedish separating toilets, cradle-to-cradle manufacturers...
