Pros: QUIET, super large capacity, less soap!
Cons: Loud Buzzer
When our old washer began to misbehave, a front loader wasn't even a consideration because of the price. We were fortunate and found the Kenmore Model 40042 on sale (floor model). And thank goodness we did! I would recommend this washer to ANYONE.
I think the very best thing about it is the capacity. Before, I had to bring our queen size quilted comforter to the laundromat to be cleaned. This washer is large enough to wash the comforter. What used to be 3 or 4 loads in our old top-loader is now 1 or 2 loads in the Kenmore. We have small children, so the washer is used daily - the money saved in doing less loads is a BIG bonus for us.
This washer also uses less water to wash a load of clothes. This is nice for us, because our water rates have gone up this summer.
Front-loading washers recommend that the user uses the High Efficiency laundry soap. I have not had much luck finding it, and when I have found it, the soap is ridiculously expensive. You CAN use regular laundry soap in the washer, you just have to use less of it. More money saved in laundry soap too! A large bottle of Tide lasted me about a month and a half.
Did I mention the noise level? There is none! We were amazed the first time we washed a load of laundry...we heard it filling, but that was it! The only time that you can hear the washer is when it is filling with water, or the final spin cycle (which is rather loud, but it sure gets the clothes dry!)
I would say the only drawback is the loud end-of-cycle buzzer. There is no volume adjustment on it. BUT, given the quietness of the washer, it sure makes it easy to tell when a load is done. Our washer is located in the basement, which makes it hard to hear if it is done.
Bottom line, it's QUIET, it holds LOTS of LAUNDRY, it CLEANS BETTER, and uses LESS WATER and LESS SOAP. The recommended $800 price tag that is on this website would be hard to swallow though. If you can find it on sale or a floor model (which is still guaranteed by the store), BUY IT!
