The Bottom Line: This washer is well worth the money..you will more than recoup it in the long run!

For years and years I have had standard sized top loading washing machines with those huge agitators located in the center of the basket. Since I sell Whirlpool and Kitchenaid products to my clients when they purchase their new homes, I tend to hear feedback from my clients regarding the pros and cons of these products. One of my clients insisted on getting the CALYPSO washing machine..along with the Senseon Dryer (also made by Whirlpool). They had just come out and I hadn't even received product literature yet. So I ordered them for her and to make a long story short, she couldn't stop ranting and raving about them after she moved in to her new home.

I decided to purchase these for myself. Had I not known of the benefits of owning one of these, I probably would have been hesitant to spend the money. This is by far not the cheapest washing machine on the market. Most of my clients say..a washer is a washer. Not true in this case.

The Calypso washer DOES NOT have a huge agitator, which enables you to put more clothes in at one time or larger items such as king sized comforters and heavy blankets. I could NEVER do this with any of my other washing machines.

In addition, the variety of settings available at the simple push of a button make it easier so you don't have to decide what temperature, speed, etc. to use. There is a "whitest whites" cycle...just push a button and you're set. There is a "Jeans and Darks" cycle and a "Bulky Items" cycle. How much simpler can this be? It also have cycles for heavy duty loads and quick washing. The delicate casual cycle is great for slacks and blouses. The Wool cycle, well that speaks for itself. And my favorite cycle, the HAND WASH cycle doesn't harm my silk blouses or lingerie. You can also add an extra rinse cycle or extended spin cycle for larger items.

When you chose a setting the washer automatically adjusts the temperature for you or you can set it manually. You can even adjust the soil level for extra dirty clothes (for those of you who have little rugrats like mine that like to play in the mud).

I find that I do less loads of laundry, hence saving money in my electric bill. In addition, the sleek design goes extremely well with contemporary decor. It comes in white and gray (goes well with stainless appliances).

The only one drawback I found out was that when I washed some large items and used powdered detergent (I rarely use powdered and probably won't again) there was a powder residue left on the items.

As far as rating the "quiet" level of this washer goes, I'd have to say it's in the middle. If you have a laundry room and you close the door you won't hear a thing, otherwise, you may want to rethink the location of this unit. I do notice sometimes during the spin cycle, if the laundry room door is open I have trouble hearing my television (which is only about 25 feet away from the unit).
