Pros: Gets clothes clean. Energy efficient.
Cons: Temperatures combined with type of wash load. Only two Load Selector settings.
The Bottom Line: I would pay more and get three "Load Size Selectors" and separate "Water Temperatures." It would make wash days easier.

| shartion's Full Review: Whirlpool LSR5132J Top Load Washer |
I complained when my ingenious husband brought home a used washer for $200.00 several years ago. I just couldn't agree a used washer was worth that much. I learned the hard way! It really did work amazingly well the first few years and for a $200 used machine with every feature one would ever want, I found it well worth the price.
All good things must come to an end, however, and when it and three other appliances started falling apart, I dredged through the Sunday fliers looking for some great deals. I found everything I wanted in the "Best Buy" advertisement. I strongly encouraged my better half, who was locked in a trance with the sports page, to rush out with me immediately. When he mumbled his "uh huh," I took it as a yes and rushed him out the door.
I didn't need anything fancy - my washer sits in a basement laundry room where not even the dearest friends dare tread. The Whirlpool Super Capacity LSR5132J" was exactly what I was looking for. With only two rotary dials, it looked easy to operate and was priced at only $278 when purchased with the Whirlpool electric dryer. Whirlpool appliances have always done a top notch job in our home and I had confidence in this new appliance purchase too.
The Whirlpool Super Capacity LSR5132J" is well made. It has a steel cabinet, a tough acrylic-enamel finish and measures 26-7/8x25-1/2x42-3/8.
Set up was very simple and after an easy water hookup, it was ready to go. It requires the usual 110/120 volts and for safety sake must be plugged into a grounded three prong outlet.
The Whirlpool Super Capacity LSR5132J" washer is just what the names implies - large! It has no problems handling a large load. It has a 1/2 HP motor and a heavy duty 3.0 cubic foot capacity speckled, porcelain basket.
The Rotary Dial is easy to use and includes Five Automatic Cycles.
~Normal Heavy, Regular and Light and
~Permanent Press Regular and Light.
Three Water Temperatures are included but unfortunately, the Automatic Wash Cycles and the three Water Temperatures are combined. Since we have off-peak heating, we have always used cold water for laundry. Now, if we set the machine for Regular wash (bright colors), it uses warm water. The cold temperature is only available for a Light wash. Hot is set with Heavy. I don't want hot and heavy together. Our jeans, for instance, tend to shrink in hot water. We have found our way around this by always turning the machine to light wash with its cold water setting. Once it fills up with cold water, we then reset the dial to whatever load we are washing. This is a great way to do it if you have a memory and nothing to do other then sit and watch a large capacity machine fill.
Even though I prefer three water levels, the Whirlpool Super Capacity LSR5132J" washer has only two Water Levels consisting of Small and Super size. I never realized how often I used that Medium load on my old washer.
The clothes always come out clean and I attribute this to a "Surgilator Agitator" which keeps the clothes moving throughout the wash cycle. It also has a Self-cleaning Filter which traps lint and flushes it away through the water outlet instead of your clothes.
Stain Removal Instructions on the inside of the lid are very convenient and easy to follow.
If I were a person with children or a large family, I would have returned the Whirlpool Super Capacity LSR5132J" washer to our place of purchase. However, since I only wash clothes for two people and use once a week or so, it will suffice.
The ratings I gave this washer are pretty average. For Ease of Use I could have put 3-Average but because of having to switch between the light wash for cold and then back again to the type of load you want and because it only has two Load Selector Settings" I only rated it a 2-Fair. Even though it was inexpensive at $278.00 (when you purchased the dryer) and the MSRP is $309.00, my final decision doesn't recommend this washer. I realize now I paid for exactly what I got.
