mfeehl's Full Review: Weber-Stephen Products Genesis Silver A (LP) Propa...
As a former steakhouse owner (30 yrs), I know the importance of proper heat for cooking beef, poultry, fish and veggies, etc. My pro gas grilles kicked out very high heat (1500 degrees and up) to insure steaks were marked, seared and juices sealed in, with little flare up.Of coarse those grills were VERY expensive!
At home, there's only two of us so I don't need a big grille anymore, yet I wanted one that still put out lots of heat and was quality made.
After weeks of research, I chose the Genesis A. Most people misunderstand BTU's and think 26,000BTU isn't enough, but I did the math and it's good for this unit.
At the $399 I paid, this baby blows away some other grilles I've used that were hundreds more! And the 2 burner setup is perfect! I grill about 4 times a week or more, since I live in S FL and want my food to taste it's best. Every lunch/dinner I've cooked has not only come out good tasting and evenly cooked, but looks appetizing to eat!
I must tell the readers that I'm not a Chef(I had an Executive Chef in charge of my Restaurants and Culinary Grads cooking and preparing). But of coarse I was very involved in R&D in menu selections. For us amateurs, besides a great grill, and quality food and ingredients, the most important tool is a high quality thermometer so you cook your food properly.
For parties or family's of 4 or 5, I highly recommend this grill! It's truly been a joy to use and I always am searching for a new recipe to cook on it!
