| pweisenberg's Full Review: Weber-Stephen Products Genesis Silver A (LP) Propa... |
Ahhh Summer! One of the first things I enjoy about summer cooking outside on the grill. Barbequing is a national past time itself for most Americans. Its much better being outside with the sweet smell of grill and your favorite beverage in your hand. With all those grills firing during the summer, many don’t quite make it through. That is why you need one that will last.
Webber Grills are warranted for 10 years. (What more to I have to say) How many other Gas Grill manufactures warrantee their product for that length. (Answer: none) Ok, that’s just the casing, but the burner unit is 5 year, which for burners is a lifetime.
Like most of you, I too had gone through 3 gas grills prior to buying the Weber Genesis. (Sunbeam's usually rust out in the begin of their second season of use.)
I was also getting sick of the ignition switch failing after about a month and then risking my life every time I threw a match in the grill. So when my last grill finally died 3 years ago, I put my foot (and money) down.
In the Beginning:
The Genesis series is not cheap, (350 - 500 dollars) but you get what you pay for. The unit has 2-3 burner rods (The Silver A series has 2) and the running under the base of the casing, each controlled by separate adjustable temperature controls.
The Series A comes with a either a cast Iron grate or a lighter aluminum alloy (depending on when you bought it). The Cast Iron captures the flavor and does a great job of cooking the food evenly, but the aluminum is easier to clean.
The grill also does not use rocks or charcoal, but flavor bars that chris-cross across the bottom of the casing above the gas rods. These rods prevent flare-ups and also distribute the heat evenly.
I own the Series B grill which is now four years old and I have not had any major problems. . My neighbor has the Series A and he just loves it. If you perform the regular maintenance on it yearly, (clean out the spider traps and gas casings) the Weber should last many years. There is a drip pan on the bottom that needs emptying and a drawer that collects all the burnt carcasses that fall through..
The only problem to date is that the paint on the outer casing is starting to peal off. When I tried to clean it, I just made it worse. The newer models have fixed this problem, but you can contact Weber and they will replace the whole shell if necessary. (Now that’s great customer service)
The grill also has a bun warmer rack and an extra rack to add above the cast iron grate if you have a really large amount of food to cook.
Conclusion: Either Weber Silver Series is a great addition to the outdoor barbeque. With regular care (keep it covered) it should last 10 years.
