The Weber kettle grill is almost a stereotypical fixture of American suburbia, together with patio furniture. After succumbing to having to buy one for an outdoor party, I now know why it is probably THE most popular outdoor grill.
First of all, the kettle design allows rapid cooking and heat retention. With a starter funnel, the coals are ready to go rather quickly. With the kettle lid on, the food cooks fairly fast and evenly. I like using mesquite briquets, it gives the food a nice smoky flavor.
Also, product durability is very good. The porcelain-baked enamel body is very durable and will give many years of service. My only beef is that the legs on the bottom of the kettle seem to come out of its sockets too easily when wheeled, a problem that others have also noticed. I'll take their advice on fixing that.
I have also noticed that some people have also complained about the ash catcher design on the One Touch Silver Grill. Sometimes I think it is a bit messier than the One Touch Gold Grill, which has an enclosed ash tray, but because I don't grill on a very frequent basis, I didn't think that the $30-40 premium for the One Touch Gold was really justified. That's really up to the individual user to determine.
Weber has a lot of accessories for your grill. I have the vinyl cover, and the attachment for hanging your utensils. There are also lots of other things such as a board to hold your sauces and dishes, utensils, condiment holder, extra racks, and the like, if you really want to go whole hog with the barbeque. You don't need them all, but it's nice to know that the company really is a grilling specialist and supports the product quite well.
I find that the Weber One Touch Silver Grill represents excellent value for money, as a tried and true grill that not only allows one to grill various foods with excellent results, but will provide many years of service.
