Food Processor - such a sterile phrase for such a versatile machine. This is my second Cuisinart as my first was destroyed in the Santa Cruz earthquake - so if you buy another one, then that is already a great recommendation in and of itself.
I have often said, either alone or with a group, "I LOVE my Cuisinart". And I do.
The basic machine comes with a couple of slicing discs, a shredding disc, a chopping blade and a dough blade. With the exception of the dough blade, I have used them all (I do not use the dough blade as the Mighty Breadmaker does that for me).
Chopping blade is used for nuts, grating parmesan cheese (just WATCH that Cuisinart work hard when it does that!), blending, etc. The slicing discs each have a different gap width, so thin or thick slices can be made appropriately. Toss the 'shrooms in and 2 seconds, Voila! sliced and ready to cook. Want julienned carrots, in goes the shredding disc and it is instant julienne.
The only down-side of the Cuisinart is the relative fragility of the bowl components. I have replaced the lid 5 times in the last 10 years as the latching mechanism cracks inside the lid. This is a very weak part of the machine, and a broken lid means the Cuisinart won't run as it is not latched tight. This is the 3rd work bowl I have had as the original Cuisinart latches wore down, but that is OK as I used it a lot.
Lots of attachments exist for this machine, it even had (not sure you can get it any more) a juicer which was handy.
Cuisinart is the only appliance we have on our kitchen counter and it is the only one that is allowed to stay there as it is used so much.
I LOVE my Cuisinart.
