Customer Service Experience:
Pros:They drive the truck, low cost, fast and polite service, nothing lost
Cons:Loading the trailer yourself, including hauling and intricately packing stuff into a small space.
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this service to people who want a low cost, low worry move that know how to pack and load, and don't mind doing the work themselves.
I recently moved belongings from our two bedroom apartment from Cleveland, OH to Dallas, TX - a 1100 mile move. I researched many options, including renting a truck from U-haul or Penske, full service movers, PODS, and U-pack (ABF). It was tempting to fork over the dough to have a full service mover just take care of everything, but after reading reviews at this site and elsewhere, I decided that I really didn't want to pay $3000 for them to lose and damage most of my stuff. Next option, I thought renting a truck would be the cheapest option. $1300 for a truck and car-tow package didn't sound too bad, but throw in another $500 in gas and the price adds up. Plus, U-haul also scored low in truck availability and reliability. PODS is just plain expensive (quote ~$2700). Finally, U-pack. They were polite and prompt every step of the way. The only damage to our stuff was some minor rubbing on furniture that was due to our lack of packing blankets. Do not underestimate the amount of packing material you will need - it's a lot! This was not at all the fault of U-pack though, we knew our stuff was going in a trailer. Also, don't underestimate the amount of work it takes to pack all your stuff into a trailer! We are young and poor and didn't mind the work, but others might. End the end, we managed to fit our stuff into 8 ft of truck space and moved for only $1200. Overall, I am happy with the moving experience.
