When moving from Houston to NW Arkansas, a 20 foot Uhaul would have been approximately $600, and I would have to drive the thing and tow a truck behind it. A POD would have been about $1500. Upack estimated that I would need about 19 feet in the 28 foot long truck, and that would have been about $950. Turns out I used the whole truck and it was about $1100. Still worth every penny. The folks at the Ft. Smith, AR home office are great - nice and happy to help you out. Drivers are extremely nice and helpful as well. The fact that you can actually speak to the local dispatchers is nice as well, although sometimes they can't give you as much info as you might like, but hey, they are dispatching several hundred trucks a day probably. Timeliness was perfect in our case, and pickup and delivery went without a hitch. The time windows for pickup and delivery can be big, like 4 hours. The trailer was clean and the ramp worked well. I'm kinda scrawny and was able to barely handle the ramp myself. I hired pro movers (The Woodlands Moving Company - AWESOME) to pack my trailer (best $300 I have ever spent), and they warned me that the ABF trailers "can be a rough ride". The movers packed my trailer super tight, and I wrapped all of our furniture in blanket, cardboard, and shrink-wrap and nothing was damaged from the bouncing in the trailer. Packing tightly is key with these trailers. Another thing the mover said is that the good thing about using the whole trailer is you don't have to worry about what type of consumer goods end up being packed alongside your stuff and if the trailer only has your stuff in it, it might make it to the destination faster since they don't have to perhaps make another stop - that's just advice from him and I have no proof that that may be the case - but it makes some sense.
