Customer Service Experience:
Pros:Good price, good service, timely arrival
Cons:Poor communication with initial drop-off
The Bottom Line: To avoid the anxiety of spending multiple nights with all of your belongings in a defenseless rental truck, U-Pack offers a good price for great service.
We recently moved from Alabama to Oregon and overall had a great experience with ABF U-Pack. The ABF reps and the drivers were professional and courteous. I was sure the trailer wouldn't make it in 5 business days, with 3,000 miles to cross and cargo to be loaded/unloaded along the way. But it did, and it even beat us to our destination. Luckily, we had 3 days to schedule a drop-off. There was very minimal damage to our belongings. A few scrapes and dings should be expected. It is VERY important to tie everything down, as tight as possible. We used a lot of rope. Straps would probably have been better. Also, paper won't cut it for protecting breakables. I bubble-wrapped everything, and not a single dish was broken. Our final bill ended up being $200 less than the quote. A few minor complaints - Our Birmingham origin terminal had some scheduling issues. The trailer ended up being a day and a half late. Not entirely their fault, but they could have communicated with us better. We used 8' of trailer space for a small apartment. The bulkhead can be secured every 2', and that first marker is at least 6" short. It does make a difference, since using more space would have cost at least an extra $400. Also, make sure the driver shows you how to secure the bulkhead. It can be stubborn.
Ultimately I chose U-Pack because the price was much better than certain other competitors, and I'm glad I did.
