| michealb40's Full Review: Dependable Auto Shippers |
Time for an update.....
This time my $4,000 new paint job was covered in transmission fluid and oil, destroying it. No matter how many times you use a company, you don't really know how they are until something bad happens. That's when the real company springs forth. The driver admits that it was caused by the car above mine leaking badly, DAS admits it was caused by the shipment, and everybody seems to think that I should be the one to pay for it. The DAS website says "your car must not have any obvious fluid leaks. Since DAS decided recently that drip pans under the upper deck cars wasn't necessary, and since my car was covered with several quarts of oil and fluid which clearly should have been seen during their inspection, it sure sounds like negligence to me. Don't use them.

I wish to comment on the service I received from these people. I was a bit nervous, knowing that the auto transport industry tends to be one of the worst things you'll have to deal with in your life. I was very stressed about picking the right company to move my classic 72 Mustang. Well, all I can say is they were cheap, fast, and good.
Not only was the counselor helpful and professional, and the arrival faster than the estimate (don't count on this part. That's totally about timing), but the service I recieved from the Stafford, NY terminal was excellent. I know some people have said the internet tracking was poor. They must have improved it, because I tracked my car correctly through every overnight stop all the way to the terminal.
The employees were polite, professional, and very friendly. I had a difficult drive coming to pick up the vehicle, so imagine my relief when I found my new car washed and sitting INSIDE their building. That part was not required or expected. I mentioned that and they said they do it whenever they have the room. They were very helpful loading onto my auto transport, after already having immediately put me at ease upon arrival. I will recommend DAS service to everyone that needs it.
NOW, the important point to remember. I did NOT use their insurance deal. Most auto shipper have it, most auto shipping insurance plans are crap. The biggest cause of this is, like every automobile insurer in the world (including yours) will bend over backwards to reduce their debt in case of a situation. Something useful to remember, the insurer is not the shipper. DAS is awesome, but I'm guessing (keyword there) that their insurer is a pain in the butt. The key point to remember here is that YOUR insurance company likely covers all damage (less the deductible), which is covered under comprehensive coverage. Check with your insurance company first and find out if they cover the vehicle during commercial shipping. Second, as with shipping your household goods, go with another insurance company, not the one that the company contracts with. Period.
