I recently renovated my kitchen and I replaced all the major appliances. The best price I could get was a package deal from McPhail's here in Marin County, where I would get a discount if I bought the range (Viking), refrigerator (Kitchen-Aid), and dishwasher (Fisher-Paykel) all at once. The problem was I wanted a builtin Sub-Zero, but McPhail's doesn't sell Sub-Zero. So I either had to buy the Sub-Zero from another dealer and pay a premium on the other components, or get the package deal with the Kitchen-Aid refrigerator.
Well, I went for the package deal but not just for the discount. I thought the styling, with the giant, stainless curved handles, was more aesthetically pleasing than the Sub-Zero's. They both were about the same size, and the Sub-Zero was a little more money.
I went for the bottom mount as opposed to the side-by-side because I like to have my stuff spread out horizontally so I can see everything when I open the door. With side-by-side style refrigerators, things tend to get stacked front-to-back, and it is hard to see everything once the box gets crowded.
I have been using the Kitchen-Aid for a few months now, and I have no regrets. It is very quite and the large curved handles really look great (can't say enough about the handles).
There are several storage bins in the with humidity control to properly store vegetables and meat products. The ice maker is prolific. We have never had so much ice. I will never have to buy another bag again.
I got some small, stainless, curved cabinet handles from KraftMaid to match the refrigerator handles it it really looks good. Anyway, if your in the market for a large builtin refrigerator you should consider the Kitchen-Aid, you won't be disappointed.
