We just recently built a new home and had to fill it with all the necessary appliances. My husband and I decided to spend some time researching the different brands, models and styles before we made the plunge. After months of researching, Whirlpool came out on top for all four large appliances that we needed. I have already written about their microwave (see my previous epinions on that one) and now I'm going to tell you about their refridgerator.
We bought Whirlpools side by side ,25.2 cubic feet fridge with ice maker and the water/ice/nightlight on the front. This is an incredible refriderator and definately better than any I have ever owned (and there have been many with all the apartments we've lived in and two other house!)
First of all, the side by side is one of my favorite features. I had never had this before having only ever had the traditional freezer on top kinds before. With the side by side there is definately more freezer room than with your old style fridge. On top of that, you can more easily see all items in the fridge at a glance. In the freezer on top kind everythin is stacked on top of each other with half of it behind everything else. Being able to just open my freezer and see what we have as I run out to the grocery store is a great plus.
The shelves in this model are all removable and they are all glass. The glass is very easy to keep clean and since they are removeable, I can just stick them right in the sink.
The front of this fridge also has the water/ice/night light feature. Again, another first for me. We have never had this option and I highly recommend it. Especially with young children in the house who were constantly asking for a drink of water. Now, they just get their own. My youngest son, who is 7, actually uses it as a water fountain! It's quite a site. He just sticks his chin on the depressor and the water pours right in. Hows that for saving on dishes?!
The water that comes through for the drinking water also goes through a purifier. I think it tastes better than bottled. The water in our tap is very hard but once it goes through the fridge it's wonderful. We are saving tons on bottled water now. The filter it goes through is removeable and replaceable. We actually just had to do this for the first time last week and we found the part easily at Menards for $25. It says on the box to replace once every six months or so but we waited a whole year before the water started to taste different.
This is a great fridge and I highly recommend it. We purchased the bisque color and it looks great. I would never go white again. Good luck in your purchase!
God Bless!
