Pros: It makes great rice in a very little time. Doesn't cost much.
Cons: It will boil over if you try to make too much.
The Bottom Line: If you like rice, I'd say get this product. I've eaten more rice in the last month, than I have in the last year.

| aklesh3's Full Review: Panasonic SR-W06PC 3-Cup Rice Cooker |
I've always enjoyed rice. It's a great side dish or by adding to it, it becomes a main course. But I always depended on the pre-made stuff. You know, the small yellow package where you just add XX water and microwave for XX minutes. It was good.. while it was hot. Once it got cold it was dog food. (for my three dogs. FYI I make rice or noddles for them once a week with lots and lots of garlic.) Then this past Christmas my friend Huggy-Bear (yes his real, legal name) got me a small 3 cup rice cooker. I made brown rice. It was burnt. (At that time I didn't know that you should soak it first.) So I tried white rice. It burnt. I tried different kinds, cheap, not cheap, I followed the instructions, 1 1 /2 cup of water to 1 cup rice, then 2 cups of water to 1 cup rice. Burnt every time.
But what didn't burn was good, really good. Better then anything else I had made up until then. So I decided that (tipical male thinking), it's the cooker! It must be bad. So I went to google, read reviews, studied the choices.
And bought the cheapest one.
Now before you get the wrong idea, you need to know that I really hate shopping. I went to Wally World and they only one 1 to choose from. I hate to shop but I do like options. So I went to Linens and Things. My choices were a 32 cup rice cooker ($79.00), a 16 cup rice cooker, ($50), an 8 cup rice cooker ($34.95). And that was all the clerk showed me, but there waaayyy in the back tucked away, (I'm sure out of the sight of the clerk '-)), was the Panasonic 3 cup SR-W06PA ($19.95).
It came home with me. I made white rice. Perfect. I made brown rice. Perfect. I made sticky rice and long grain and enriched rice and enriched white rice and... not a one burned on me. (Told you it was the old ricer). The great think about this one is the cooking pot itself. It is nonstick. Now some people have said that if you leave it on the warm setting it will burn in the middle. To be honest I don't know. I'm a single guy so I don't cook for a whole family of people, so the rice is often times the meal itself. But I have noticed that there is a very very thing layer of scum on the bottom, somewhat like what you get on the top of gravy, but as soon as you mixed it all together, it's gone.
I'm a single guy with a small kitchen, so I don't have a lot of counter space, and usually I don't buy something unless it can do more than one thing. This is the only application I have that does just one thing. it also comes with a steaming rack that sits in the bottom of the cooker. I've never used it. I use something else, but more on that later.
The only bad thing I have to say about it is that while it says that it makes three cups of rice if you try to make over two, it will boil over. The lid sits of three little bumps that let the steam out, the water bubbles will over run out of the crack.
Now rice by itself, no matter how tasty can get boring. But pour over some black beans and that's good eatin'! I've tried other things, putting frozen peas in with the rice so that it's mixed in and cooked along with the rice. But it made it take longer. I have tried using broth instead of water, it was great. Cheese, once the switch flipped to warm, I put chunks of cut up cheese on the top and put the lid back on for about 5 minutes and then mixed it up right in the pot. MMMMMM-MMMMMMM good.
I know that some people use it for other things (Hi, bwestman) but I only use it for rice. The product I use the most is the Presto Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cooker/Steamer Model 06000. Watch for my review of it coming to an epinions near your!
UPDATE: 01/17/05. In my never ending quest for rice goodness. I thought I would try those other 'older' rice that were a part of my life for so long. Instant rice, came out perfect, even the brown. The yellow rice that comes in the tube, like Vigo - Saffron yellow rice. Perfect. Man, I love this rice cooker!
